14 Months In, a #87 VRS Peak, and 6 Contracts on the Market: Why Team Falcons Put Its CS2 Academy on Hold

After fourteen months of competition across the European tier-two circuit, the project is coming to a halt. In an official statement shared on Saturday, November 7, 2026, Saudi esports organization Team Falcons announced that it has placed its Counter-Strike 2 academy program, Falcons Force, on hold. All five players and their head coach have been placed on the transfer list.
Five Players and Coach NaToSaphiX Cleared to Explore New Options
Originally formed in September 2025 to establish an internal talent pipeline for the organization, Falcons Force is suspending operations indefinitely. In its official announcement, Team Falcons confirmed that it has given the five players and Danish head coach Niels Christian "NaToSaphiX" Sillassen "the space to explore their options" on the open market, instructing interested organizations to contact Falcons management directly regarding contract buyouts and inquiries.
While the main roster recently locked down its long-term core with star AWPer m0NESY signing a contract extension through 2030, the six members of the academy division now available for transfer are:
- Niels Christian "NaToSaphiX" Sillassen (Denmark, Head Coach)
- Matej "NucleonZ" Trajkoski (North Macedonia, Rifler)
- Vladimir "VENO" Stankovic (Serbia, Player)
- Andrei "grecu" Grecu (Romania, Player)
- Oskar "clockzi" Led Blæsbjerg (Denmark, Player)
- Sindre "Tapewaare" Ellefsen (Norway, Player)
Team Falcons has not yet specified whether pausing Falcons Force marks a permanent exit from the academy ecosystem or if the organization plans to rebuild its youth division from scratch in 2027.
From a #87 VRS Peak to NucleonZ's Stand-In Heroics at BLAST Bounty
Competing primarily across online cups and ESEA Advanced, Falcons Force faced an uphill climb in Europe's crowded tier-two landscape. Over its 14-month tenure under NaToSaphiX, the lineup reached its highest ranking in May 2026 at No. 87 in the global Valve Regional Standings (VRS), while recording its best LAN finish with a 4th-place run at the Parken Challenger Championship Season 3 in Denmark.

However, the academy project delivered its biggest return on investment as an emergency bridge to the tier-one squad. Earlier in the 2026 season, when Russian prodigy Maksim "kyousuke" Lukin encountered recurring visa delays, Team Falcons called up North Macedonian rifler Matej "NucleonZ" Trajkoski to stand in at the highest level.
Thrown into the fire at the BLAST Bounty Winter 2026 Season 1 Finals in Malta, NucleonZ exceeded expectations alongside the main roster. He helped Team Falcons take down heavyweights Team Liquid and Team Vitality on the way to the grand final, finishing as tournament runners-up behind PARIVISION, before answering the call once again as a substitute at BLAST Open Rotterdam.

Why Valve's VRS Era Makes CS2 Academy Teams Harder to Sustain
Falcons' decision to pause its developmental squad reflects a broader structural challenge across Counter-Strike 2 under the Valve Regional Standings (VRS) framework. During the era of franchised partner leagues and dedicated youth circuits such as the former WePlay Academy League, secondary rosters enjoyed a predictable tournament calendar and steady exposure.
Today, with every match dictating the official VRS standings ahead of the Singapore Major, Valve's strict conflict-of-interest regulations prevent academy teams from competing in the same Major qualifiers or tier-one circuit funnels as their parent organizations. Without a clear path to top-tier events and with fewer open LANs offering meaningful VRS points at the lower levels, maintaining a full-time academy roster has become increasingly difficult for organizations to justify financially.
The Strategist's Take
In my view, the pause of Falcons Force highlights the exact dilemma every top organization faces with academy rosters in the VRS era. On one hand, having NucleonZ under contract and match-ready saved Team Falcons' early 2026 campaign when kyousuke was sidelined by visa issues, resulting in a grand final run in Malta that paid for the project's competitive value overnight. On the other hand, Valve's rulebook puts a hard ceiling on sister teams, leaving five young players grinding tier-three online leagues with no pathway to major qualifiers. Whether Falcons eventually revamps the model or moves toward single-player loan deals, NucleonZ and NaToSaphiX have shown more than enough to land on their feet quickly.
