Free Fallout: New Vegas Steam Key: Date, Time, and How to Claim Lenovo Legion's December 2 Drop

Sixteen years after its original October 2010 launch, Obsidian Entertainment and Bethesda Softworks' post-apocalyptic RPG remains one of the most respected benchmarks in open-world role-playing on PC. The Lenovo Legion Gaming Community has officially scheduled a new Game Key Drop event that will allow PC players to claim a permanent activation key for the official Steam version of Fallout: New Vegas for free starting Wednesday, December 2, 2026, at 12:00 PM ET (5:00 PM GMT / 6:00 PM CET).
A Worldwide Limited-Key Drop on December 2 at 12:00 PM ET
Unlike open-ended weekly giveaways on digital storefronts, Lenovo's Game Key Drops program distributes a finite pool of keys on a strict first-come, first-served basis through a virtual queue system. The promotion is open worldwide and does not require owning a Lenovo PC or hardware peripheral to participate.
The claim window opens on Wednesday, December 2, 2026, at 12:00 PM Eastern Time (9:00 AM PT / 5:00 PM UK time), directly on Lenovo Legion's official Fallout: New Vegas Game Key Drop page. The giveaway provides a key for the standard base edition of Fallout: New Vegas (normally priced at $9.99 on Valve's storefront, where it holds an "Overwhelmingly Positive" 96% rating across more than 213,000 user reviews), without story expansions such as Dead Money or Old World Blues. Once redeemed on Steam, the game remains permanently in your library.
Requirements and Steps to Redeem Your Voucher via Gamesplanet
Following the same format used during its previous DOOM (2016) giveaway, Lenovo relies on a Gleam verification widget paired with official retail partner Gamesplanet to issue the Steam keys. Because key supplies typically run out quickly once the queue opens, players should set up their accounts ahead of December 2:
- Create a Lenovo Legion Gaming Community account: register for a free account on Lenovo's community portal and make sure your Lenovo ID login credentials are active.
- Prepare a verified Twitch account: the Gleam verification widget includes a mandatory Twitch step. Your Twitch profile must have a verified email address for the confirmation to go through.
- Enable browser cookies: Lenovo notes that strict script blockers or privacy extensions blocking third-party cookies can prevent the Gleam widget or queue verification popups from loading properly.
- Refresh the page at 12:00 PM ET sharp on December 2: the claim widget only appears once the drop goes live, so refresh the page right at the start time to enter the virtual queue, complete the Twitch follow step, and link your Legion account.
- Redeem the voucher on Gamesplanet: after claiming your voucher code from Lenovo, sign into Gamesplanet using your Lenovo ID to convert the voucher into an official Steam activation key, then redeem it in your Steam client.

The Mojave Wasteland Remains in the Spotlight for Fallout Fans
Directed by Josh Sawyer at Obsidian Entertainment, Fallout: New Vegas casts players as a courier left for dead in the Mojave Wasteland, caught in a three-way struggle between the New California Republic (NCR), Caesar's Legion, and Mr. House for control of the New Vegas Strip. Its branching quest design and faction reputation mechanics continue to inspire major community projects on PC, recently highlighted by the full Path Tracing overhaul on PC built by modder Kim2091 using RTX Remix.
Alongside the ongoing preservation of classic PC RPGs highlighted by the GOG Preservation Program, Bethesda's flagship series is also preparing its next technological leap. While an official Fallout: New Vegas remaster is currently in development, Todd Howard confirmed that both The Elder Scrolls VI and Fallout 5 are being built on Bethesda's upgraded Creation Engine 3: "When we build these worlds, it starts with the tech. A lot of people think engine, they think rendering, but there's so much more that goes into it from a tool side and a system side. For the kind of worlds that we want to build and also knowing that we were going to be doing Fallout 5, and just how do we do those simultaneously in a way where it's not start and stop."
My Take
Let's be honest for a second: between registering on Lenovo Legion, linking a verified Twitch account through Gleam, waiting in a virtual queue at noon sharp, and logging into Gamesplanet to convert a voucher into a Steam code, Lenovo makes you jump through quite a few hoops for a game that costs $9.99 at full price and regularly drops under three bucks during Steam sales. Still, if there is one Western RPG that belongs permanently in every Steam player's library, it's this one. Obsidian's writing across the Mojave Wasteland hasn't aged a day in sixteen years, and grabbing a permanent Steam copy for free is a great excuse to revisit New Vegas with modern stability and visual mods.
