$6 Twitch Sub to Unlock a Campaign Shield: Space Marine 2 Players Slam Focus Entertainment

The kickoff of Year 3 for Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 was meant to be a massive celebration for the Emperor's faithful. The rollout of Patch 15 brings a substantial wave of content, introducing Chaos to Siege Mode, an intense endgame PvE trial, and a comprehensive overhaul for the Tactical class.
However, the celebration was immediately overshadowed by widespread frustration across Reddit and official forums. At the center of the storm is a controversial marketing decision by publisher Focus Entertainment regarding one of the game's most anticipated cosmetics.
A campaign shield locked behind a $6 Twitch subscription
Bulwark players have been waiting months to get their hands on the iconic Victrix Guard Shield. This ornate golden piece was already featured on honor guard NPCs during the main story campaign, yet remained completely unobtainable in the multiplayer Armoury.
Instead of unlocking the shield through an endgame accomplishment or standard watch-time Twitch Drops, Focus opted for a "Support a Streamer" requirement. To secure the cosmetic between October 1 and October 29, players must link their PROS account and purchase at least one recurring or gift subscription costing roughly $6 on an eligible partner channel.
For a community that already purchased a $70 retail game and multiple Season Passes, this monetization tactic sparked intense backlash. Players quickly condemned the decision to turn a long-requested in-game asset into a paid third-party paywall.

Saber Interactive confirms future free unlock after community revolt
As negative threads dominated the game's official community hubs, the developers stepped in to control the damage. Saber Interactive confirmed that the Victrix Guard Shield will eventually be added to the in-game Accolades shop in an upcoming patch.
Once implemented, space marines will be able to earn the prized shield through gameplay progression without paying extra money. While this promise provides relief, the move leaves a sour taste for players following the October 2026 video game release calendar who expected cleaner reward mechanics.
Free Twitch Drops have consistently proven effective at uniting communities around live games. Transforming those community rewards into paywalled tollbooths is the fastest way to alienate your most dedicated audience.
