Enshrouded 1.0 Best Base Locations Guide: From Fort Kelvin to Veilwater Basin Strongholds

Fort Kelvin Enshrouded

Following the official launch of Enshrouded 1.0 on PC and PS5 alongside the Sparkworks system on October 15, 2026, the full map of Embervale is finally open to builders. Whether you dream of a quiet waterfront cabin or a sprawling pre-built fortress to restore block by block, choosing where to place your Flame Altar shapes your entire survival journey.

Thanks to the flexibility of the custom voxel engine built by Keen Games on Steam and the generous network of Ancient Spire fast travel points, you can prioritize scenic beauty without crippling your logistics. Still, the finest spots in version 1.0 manage to blend breathtaking views, high glider launch points, and rich ore veins right outside your door.

Springlands: Restoring Fort Kelvin or Building by the Ponds

On the northern border of the Springlands, just west of the Pillars of Creation and roughly a kilometer southeast of the Revelwood Ancient Spire, Fort Kelvin stands out as the ultimate early-game restoration project. This abandoned stone-and-timber settlement features a central town square, underground tunnels, and its own pre-built watchtower.

Once you upgrade your Flame Altar, the entire village fits neatly within your building perimeter and grants a hefty initial Comfort rating as soon as you patch up the roofs with your construction hammer. Restoring every building takes dedication, but watching this medieval hamlet come back to life in the morning sun is deeply rewarding.

If you prefer starting on an empty lot, a tranquil pond just west of Fort Kelvin features a small central island and a wooden pier begging to be expanded over the water. Just stay mindful of enemy patrols passing along the nearby road, or head south toward the Hollowed Halls to clear a flat, forested mountainside pond with direct access to a northern flint mine.

Revelwood and Blackmire: The Blue Goblet Tavern and Secret Waterfalls

The thick canopy of Revelwood often casts the forest floor in deep shadow, which can make bases feel gloomy. However, following the trail west-northwest from the Revelwood Ancient Spire leads to one of the warmest, most inviting landmarks in the region: the Blue Goblet Tavern.

Blue Goblet Tavern
Perched on a sunlit Revelwood hilltop, the Blue Goblet Tavern offers an instant high Comfort boost and easy access to nearby clay and ore deposits.

Unlike full towns that demand dozens of hours of masonry, this single multi-story inn lets you move in with minimal hassle once you clear out its resident spiders. Its elevated hilltop position catches far more sunlight than the surrounding woods, its cellar hides secret passages, and the surrounding ridges are packed with clay and ore.

For builders drawn to hidden sanctuaries, look no further than the lonely waterfall bordering Glenwood's End. Behind the cascading water lies a classic secret RPG alcove carved straight into the cliffside, offering a naturally concealed foundation for an underground woodland retreat.

Nomad Highlands, Kindlewastes, and Albaneve Summits: High-Altitude Strongholds

As your exploration pushes into the central plateaus and southern deserts, elevation becomes your greatest travel asset. Placing a Flame Altar atop the northern peak of the Pillars of Creation, which offers much flatter building space than the southern pillar occupied by the Engine Chambers, gives you a commanding glider launchpad across southern Embervale.

The southern pillar still tempts miners with nearby copper veins, while a sheltered nook at its southern foot sits between two stretches of Shroud with a hookshot shortcut to limestone deposits. To make the most of those mineral runs and push your character to the new endgame cap, check out our guide to the two best mining spots to reach level 50 fast.

Deep in the southern Kindlewastes, where fast travel points are scarce, the desert town of Shorewatch strikes a rare balance between scale and practicality. More manageable than the region's massive ruins, it boasts intricate floor mosaics and a pre-built tower you can keep extending upward for maximum gliding range.

Meanwhile, if the crisp alpine air of the Albaneve Summits calls to you, travel far to the east near the Hermit Lodgings landmark. Rather than disturbing that poignant campsite and its heartbreaking journal, settle slightly northwest in the cozy lakeside cabin overlooking the frozen water.

Veilwater Basin: Waterfront Masterpieces in Riverreach and Driftwood Wake

Crowning the tropical, water-filled endgame territories, Veilwater Basin delivers the most dramatic vistas in Enshrouded 1.0 around Dragondream Lake. In the northernmost corner of the lake sits Riverreach, a monumental three-tiered settlement stretching directly across the region's largest waterfall.

Riverreach Veilwater Basin
Stretching across a massive waterfall in Veilwater Basin, Riverreach features three vertical tiers and giant working waterwheels.

Renovating every dark-wood house and underground cell in Riverreach is a monumental undertaking frequently showcased by veteran builders on the Enshrouded subreddit. Yet its enormous, working waterwheels and multi-level stonework make it an unmatched playground for wiring automated doors, traps, and contraptions with the new Sparkworks logic system.

If Riverreach feels too vast for your group, cross Dragondream Lake to the southeast to claim Driftwood Wake. Tucked against its own western mountainside waterfall and sitting right at the water's edge, this smaller settlement is far easier to renovate and serves as the premier fishing haven in Embervale.

My Take: When Voxel Architecture Tells a Story

What always moves me while wandering through Embervale is how Keen Games designed its ruins not as static set pieces, but as lived-in places waiting for our tools to wake them up. Between the quiet solitude of an Albaneve lakeside cabin and the rushing hydraulic power of Riverreach's waterwheels, every biome invites a completely different architectural mood.

With Sparkworks logic circuits now woven into version 1.0, restoring an old hillside tavern or a waterfall town is no longer just about putting a roof over your crafting stations. It is about breathing mechanical life back into ancient stone, framed by water and light.
