007 First Light Launches Free Starter Pack on Consoles and PC: Full Iceland Prologue, Unlimited Replayability, and Half-Price Upgrade

007 First Light Free Starter Pack Against the Odds prologue James Bond PS5 Xbox Series X|S PC

After initially offering a time-limited console trial locked behind a subscription tier, IO Interactive and Amazon MGM Studios are opening the doors of MI6 to everyone at no cost. The Danish studio has officially rolled out the 007 First Light Free Starter Pack, a standalone free-to-play introduction available right now on the official 007 First Light Free Starter Pack Steam page and Xbox Series X|S, ahead of its arrival for all PlayStation 5 players on Tuesday, November 10, 2026.

The “Against the Odds” Iceland Prologue and Unlimited Replayability: Inside the Free Starter Pack

Unlike the 60-minute 007 First Light trial on PlayStation Plus Premium, which starts a strict countdown timer the moment the application boots up, the Free Starter Pack removes all time restrictions. Players on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and soon PS5 can take their time exploring the opening chapter, tweaking graphics settings, and replaying stealth challenges as many times as they like without watching the clock.

The starter package grants full access to the opening prologue mission, “Against the Odds,” set across the rugged coastline of Iceland. Stepping into the boots of a 26-year-old James Bond portrayed by Patrick Gibson, players experience a compromised military operation as a reckless Royal Navy air crewman prior to his recruitment into the Double-0 program. Powered by IO Interactive's proprietary Glacier engine, the mission serves as a full technical showcase, especially on PC, where it supports the recently deployed NVIDIA Path Tracing update alongside dynamic cover mechanics and close-quarters takedowns.

Save Data Carry-Over, Tactical Simulations, and Up to 50% Discounts Across PS5, Xbox, and Steam

Borrowing the proven onboarding strategy that turned Hitman World of Assassination into an evergreen platform, IO Interactive ensures seamless continuity between the starter pack and the retail release. Every bit of progress earned in Iceland, including cloud saves, completed mission challenges, Steam achievements, and console trophies, carries over automatically if you upgrade to the full version of 007 First Light, letting you jump straight into MI6 training alongside mentor Greenway and unlock the replayable Tactical Simulations (Tac Sim) mode.

To sweeten the deal alongside the Free Starter Pack rollout, IO Interactive has launched major digital discounts across all three platforms:

  • PlayStation 5: 50% off on the PlayStation Store through November 30, 2026, bringing the Standard Edition down to $39.99 from $79.99 (with the Free Starter Pack going live for all PS5 users on November 10).
  • Xbox Series X|S: 40% off on the Microsoft Store through November 15, 2026, paired with immediate access to the free prologue.
  • PC (Steam): 40% off through November 9, 2026, cutting the price to $47.99 from $79.99 alongside the free downloadable starter pack.

This multi-platform push comes as the Copenhagen team continues delivering Year 1 post-launch updates while gearing up for the 007 First Light Nintendo Switch 2 release in March 2027.

My Field Notes

I have always felt that a ticking 60-minute PlayStation Plus Premium timer works against the very nature of stealth games, where half the fun comes from studying guard patrols and testing different infiltration routes at your own pace. By bringing the unrestricted Free Starter Pack model from Hitman over to 007 First Light, IO Interactive fixes that friction completely. Letting PC, Xbox, and PS5 players replay the Iceland prologue for free while slashing the full game's price by up to 50% ahead of the holiday rush is a textbook way to turn hesitant onlookers into long-term MI6 recruits.
