The explosive penguin mascots of the Disgaea series are trading grid-based tactical warfare for a chaotic tabletop brawler built around backstabbing your friends. Developed by Nippon Ichi Software and published in the West by NIS America, Prinny Party: Going Overboard! officially launches on November 11, 2026 for Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam.

Blending digital board game mechanics, command RPG progression, and ruthless four-player sabotage, the spin-off puts a heavy emphasis on lowering the barrier to entry for groups. On both Nintendo's new hybrid system and PC, a single copy of the game is enough to host a full four-player lobby locally or online, while a free "Sweet & Spicy" demo is already live across digital storefronts ahead of next month's release.

Forced Co-Op Against Laharl Followed by Instant Betrayal

Set inside Boardway Park, the story kicks off when Laharl proclaims himself the Supreme Overboard and seizes the castle alongside his retinue of classic franchise heroes known as the Protago-Knights. Up to four players roam the park grounds as a Prinny or iconic Disgaea classes including the Warrior, Archer, and Ninja.

On each turn, players spin slots to boost stats, turn in quests, buy stronger gear, stack and upgrade facilities on build spaces (such as hospitals and armories that opponents can also use), or pass absurd bills at the Assembly to triple their damage, take extra turns, or construct a map-clearing cannon.

The core tension comes from how quickly alliances are forced to crumble during boss encounters:

  • Mandatory Teamwork to Survive: When world bosses spawn on the board, their overwhelming stats require players to gang up. If all four players are wiped out at the same time, it triggers an immediate Game Over for everyone.
  • Winner Takes All at the Start Tile: Once a boss is knocked out, cooperation ends on the spot. Only the player who physically picks up the defeated boss and drags them all the way back to the starting spawn point claims the credit and wins the match.
  • Explosive Prinny Throwing: Staying true to series tradition, players can pick up and hurl friends, enemies, and even facilities across the board. Thrown Prinnies detonate on impact, though fallen characters reincarnate after a few turns with a slight stat boost.

Nintendo Switch 2 GameShare Breakdown, Digital Release, and Super-Spicy Demo

A standout addition for console players is full support for Nintendo Switch 2 GameShare alongside Steam Remote Play Together on PC. With just one purchased copy on a host Nintendo Switch 2, up to four players can jump into a match together:

  • Local Wireless Sharing: A Nintendo Switch 2 system can broadcast the game locally to both other Nintendo Switch 2 consoles and original Nintendo Switch systems.
  • Online GameChat Sharing: Up to four Nintendo Switch 2 owners can share a single copy online over GameChat (requiring an active Nintendo Switch Online membership).

Standard Nintendo Switch and PS5 versions support four-player couch multiplayer as well as solo RPG training runs, though they do not include single-copy remote sharing. In Western territories, NIS America is releasing the game exclusively as a digital download across all platforms (with an estimated file size of just 527 MB on the official Nintendo eShop listing), arriving shortly after the upcoming launch of Look Outside on Nintendo Switch 2 and PS5.

Players who want an early taste can download the free demo right now on the Nintendo eShop, PlayStation Store, and Steam. Alongside a shortened standard board match against a rebalanced Laharl, the trial packs a demo-exclusive Super-Spicy difficulty mode with restricted Prinny gear that NIS America openly teases may be nearly impossible to clear.

My Take

Niche party-RPG spin-offs almost always run into the same wall: convincing three friends to each buy a separate copy just for a weekend of couch chaos. By baking in Nintendo Switch 2 GameShare (including local backwards-compatible reception for original Switch owners) and Steam Remote Play Together from day one, Nippon Ichi Software removes the biggest friction point holding back multiplayer board games. Combined with the hilarious rule that everyone has to co-op against the boss before immediately brawling over who gets to drag the unconscious body back to spawn, this looks like a genuinely clever fit for the Prinny crew, dood!
