Beyond Hideki Kamiya: PlatinumGames Confirms Bayonetta's Future Is Far From Over

When series director Hideki Kamiya parted ways with PlatinumGames in late 2023, fans braced for the worst. For over a decade, the Umbra Witch had been inseparable from its flamboyant creator, sparking doubts over whether the franchise could ever move forward. Speaking in Japanese publication Famitsu, PlatinumGames CEO Atsushi Inaba set the record straight: the studio has no intention of putting Cereza on the shelf.
A Strong Desire to Expand Cereza's World
The confirmation arrived during a joint interview between Inaba and Shift Up CEO Kim Hyung-tae, arranged to highlight the upcoming Bayonetta costume crossover in Stellar Blade. Kim openly praised PlatinumGames, admitting that his own protagonist Eve would never have existed without Bayonetta's ground-breaking combat style. The Korean director even joked that if PlatinumGames set up a desk for him in Osaka, he would show up every single day to work on character designs.
When the discussion turned to the fate of the franchise following Kamiya's exit, Inaba delivered a direct and reassuring message: "We have a strong desire to further develop the character of Bayonetta and broaden her world. Please look forward to seeing what shape that will take in the future."
Switch 2 Hardware Offers the Perfect Arena
While 2022's Bayonetta 3 and the fairy-tale prequel Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon delivered exceptional action design, both titles pushed Nintendo's original hybrid hardware to its absolute limit. Aggressive dynamic resolution scaling and frame drops during chaotic set pieces underscored how badly the franchise needed more breathing room.
The impending arrival of Nintendo Switch 2 changes everything for high-speed character action. Armed with modern silicon and hardware-accelerated upscaling, PlatinumGames can finally realize a potential Bayonetta 4 without compromising visual clarity or responsive 60 FPS gameplay. PlatinumGames Moves Forward on Its Own Terms
Kamiya once boasted that he had mapped out narrative roadmaps stretching up to a ninth installment. While his departure closed a foundational chapter in Osaka, PlatinumGames clearly refuses to let its defining IP fade into obscurity.
Bayonetta stands as the crown jewel of modern character action. Announcing that Cereza's journey continues under new creative leadership sends an unmistakable signal to the industry: the witch is alive, and the next climax is already in motion.
