Default Tac Sprint, Hajin Map, and Vondel's Return: Every Major Warzone Change in Modern Warfare 4

Just as the Modern Warfare 4 campaign early access kicks off ahead of the game's full worldwide launch on October 23, 2026, Activision's studios are pulling back the curtain on the next massive milestone: the complete overhaul of the Battle Royale experience. In Episode 2 of their official developer broadcast The Ward Room, leaders from Infinity Ward, Raven Software, and Beenox detailed every major change coming to Call of Duty: Warzone when Season 1 launches on November 6, 2026.
From a crucial movement reversal following vocal beta criticism to a brand-new large-scale battleground and the confirmed return of a beloved Resurgence map, the development teams are reshaping the formula from top to bottom.

Tactical Sprint Returns by Default With Zero Perk Requirement
The single biggest point of contention during the Modern Warfare 4 beta tests centered on movement speed. By heavily restricting Tactical Sprint (Tac Sprint) or forcing players to sacrifice a valuable perk slot just to unlock it, crossing open terrain left squads feeling like sluggish targets.
Infinity Ward and Raven Software listened directly to community feedback: Tactical Sprint is officially returning to Warzone by default for all operators in Season 1 without requiring any perk. To prevent endless, hyper-aggressive chasing across the entire map, Tac Sprint now runs on a built-in stamina drain and recharge system. That balance preserves the fluid, responsive movement needed to dodge sniper fire while keeping close-quarters gunfights readable.
Hajin Debuts as Season 1's New Battle Royale Map on November 6
Already showcased as the centerpiece of the complete DMZ extraction overhaul, the sprawling exclusion zone of Hajin will officially deploy as Warzone's flagship large-scale Battle Royale map when Season 1 goes live on November 6.
Set in a fictional border region where North Korea, South Korea, and Russia meet, Hajin is built specifically to solve long-standing rotational frustrations:
- Dense Natural Foliage: Areas between major Points of Interest (POIs) feature thick tree cover, foliage, and terrain ridges so squads rotating on foot are not left completely exposed in barren fields.
- Dynamic Match-to-Match Weather: Shifting weather conditions alter visibility and atmosphere from one match to the next, forcing players to adapt their optics and engagement ranges on the fly.
- Maintenance-Free Ground Vehicles: Sedans, campers, and ground transport vehicles on Hajin no longer require manual refueling or tire repairs, keeping squad rotations fast and uninterrupted.

Map Rotation Shakeup: Zodiac Visibility Overhaul, Verdansk Stays, and Vondel Returns in Season 2
The transition into the Modern Warfare 4 era also triggers a major map pool rotation. When Season 1 launches on November 6, three maps are cycling out of active playlists: Avalon, Haven's Hollow, and Fortune's Keep are all stepping aside. Meanwhile, fan staples Verdansk (for Battle Royale) and Rebirth Island (for Resurgence) will remain active alongside the new additions.
For Resurgence fans, the new industrial map Zodiac (built by Beenox around a high-verticality weapons manufacturing and shipping facility with a moving train) has undergone a sweeping visibility overhaul after beta testing. Developers trimmed excess trees and visual clutter, sharpened landmark silhouettes, and rebalanced interior lighting so enemies hiding inside dark rooms stand out clearly even against bright outdoor sunlight. A dedicated audio pass also brings cleaner directional footstep cues across the board.
Even better, the developers confirmed that fan-favorite European urban Resurgence map Vondel is officially making its comeback. While it will not be in the day-one Season 1 pool, Vondel is locked in to return to Warzone during Season 2 in early 2027.
Squad Zipline Launcher and Grabber Drone Change End-Game Tactics
Beyond maps and movement, Raven Software and Infinity Ward revealed two brand-new pieces of tactical equipment designed to shake up squad play and late-circle recoveries:
- Squad Zipline Launcher: A single-use deployable launcher that anchors a long-range zipline rope your entire squad can ride to storm rooftops or cross wide gaps together. To keep counterplay fair, enemies can clearly see and hear the rope snap into place before your team rides across.
- Grabber Drone: A remote utility drone capable of picking up distant loot and interacting with Buy Stations from afar so you do not have to cross open sniper lanes. Most impressively, the Grabber Drone can physically pick up and carry downed players back behind cover for a safe revive.
My Take: Restoring Default Tac Sprint Saves Warzone's Pacing
Locking Tactical Sprint behind a perk in a massive Battle Royale environment was a baffling design choice during testing that threatened to drag Warzone back to the sluggish pacing of 2022. By restoring default Tac Sprint for everyone on November 6 and cleaning up the visual clutter on Zodiac, Infinity Ward and Raven Software have defused the community's biggest complaint before launch. Add in a Grabber Drone that can literally airlift a downed teammate away from rooftop snipers, and Season 1 on Hajin is shaping up to be a genuinely refreshing reset.
