Marvel's Wolverine and EA Sports FC 27 Lead the PS5 PlayStation Store Download Charts for September 2026

Sony has officially unveiled the PlayStation Store download charts for September 2026, offering a clear snapshot of what PS5, PS4, and PS VR2 players bought at the start of the fall season. Two massive blockbusters traded the top spot across the Atlantic: Insomniac Games' Marvel's Wolverine claimed first place on PS5 in the US and Canada ahead of EA Sports FC 27, while European players pushed EA Sports FC 27 to number one just ahead of Logan's solo adventure.
Action RPGs and Horror Contenders Pack the PS5 Top 10
Beyond the expected battle at the top between superhero action and football, September proved exceptionally strong for dark fantasy and horror releases on PS5. Rebel Wolves' vampire action RPG The Blood of Dawnwalker secured third place in Europe and fifth in North America, riding strong word of mouth alongside our recent breakdown of Onimusha: Way of the Sword vs. The Blood of Dawnwalker for action RPG fans.

Players also got an early start on spooky season, sending Halloween straight to fourth place in both the US/Canada and EU charts. Capcom's samurai revival Onimusha: Way of the Sword matched that transatlantic consistency by landing at number seven in both regions, while Remedy's Control Resonant grabbed eighth place in North America and tenth in Europe. Standard PS5 owners have also been taking advantage of Sony's recent QSSR AI upscaling update on PS5 for Marvel's Wolverine, which helped keep technical performance at the center of community discussions all month.
Sports titles dominated the rest of the North American Top 10 with NBA 2K27 (3rd), Madden NFL 27 (6th), NHL 27 (9th), and College Football 27 (10th). Further down the Top 20, Call of Duty: Black Ops II claimed eleventh place in both territories, joined by notable September entries including Silent Hill: Townfall, Minecraft Dungeons II, Dune: Awakening, and 007 First Light.

Over on PS VR2, wacky feline sandbox I Am Cat ruled both territories in first place. In North America, it was followed by Horizon Call of the Mountain (2nd), Beat Saber (3rd), Pavlov (4th), and Job Simulator (5th). In Europe, Beat Saber took second and Pavlov placed third ahead of Horizon Call of the Mountain (4th) and Job Simulator (5th), with Metro Awakening and Arizona Sunshine VR 2 right behind.
Finally, the Free-to-Play (PS5 + PS4) chart highlighted a major breakout for creature-catching open-world RPG Aniimo, which debuted at number one in Europe and fourth in North America. Across Europe, Aniimo beat out Fortnite (2nd), Call of Duty: Warzone (3rd), Roblox (4th), and Once Human (5th). In the US and Canada, Call of Duty: Warzone held onto the top spot ahead of Once Human (2nd), Fortnite (3rd), Aniimo (4th), and Roblox (5th), with Marvel Rivals, Rocket League, Asphalt Legends, and Fall Guys rounding out the Top 10.
My Perspective
Looking at September's numbers, what stands out to me is how hungry PS5 players are for fresh single-player worlds alongside their usual sports staples. Seeing Marvel's Wolverine, The Blood of Dawnwalker, Onimusha: Way of the Sword, and Control Resonant all land inside the Top 10 across both North America and Europe shows that narrative-driven action games are thriving on the store right now. I am also genuinely impressed by Aniimo claiming the number-one free-to-play spot in Europe right out of the gate, proving there is still room for a new contender to shake up Fortnite and Warzone.
