18 Minutes of Gameplay, Siege Gauge, and 12 Perks: Marvel Cosmic Invasion Details Its Castle Doom Roguelike Mode Ahead of November 10

Just four days ahead of its second paid expansion launching on PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2, retro beat 'em up Marvel Cosmic Invasion is pulling back the curtain on its biggest gameplay addition yet. On November 6, 2026, publisher Dotemu and developer Tribute Games released an 18-minute commented gameplay showcase hosted by Producer Rémi Lavoie and Lead Designer Kevin Chiasson, offering a complete breakdown of the new roguelite mode arriving in The Siege of Castle Doom DLC on November 10.
Beyond adding two iconic playable fighters to the roster, the expansion overhauls the classic arcade formula into a branching, time-sensitive infiltration deep inside Latveria's most heavily guarded fortress.
The Siege Gauge, Reed Richards' Stabilizer, and 12 Tactical Perks
In the new roguelite mode introduced with The Siege of Castle Doom DLC launching on November 10, Victor von Doom is attempting to fire up the Cosmic Inductor, a volatile machine originally built to repel Annihilus that now threatens to tear the cosmos apart. Every run through the castle is governed by four core mechanics demonstrated by Lavoie and Chiasson:
- Racing Against the Siege Gauge: As time ticks away and whenever your heroes fall in combat, the ominous Siege Gauge climbs higher. The fuller the gauge gets, the stronger and more aggressive Castle Doom's forces become. If the Siege Gauge fills completely before you reach Victor von Doom's throne room, your run ends immediately.
- Battery Cells and 12 Upgrade Perks: To charge Reed Richards' Stabilizer and push back Doom's progress, players must collect Battery Cells and clear mid-encounter combat objectives. Completing challenges lets you pick defensive, damage, or tactical buffs from a pool of 12 distinct perks, while failing an objective saddles your duo with a gameplay penalty.
- Branching Castle Routes and Room Types: After clearing each encounter, a branching map forces you to choose your next doorway. Rooms are divided into distinct categories, including Equipment rooms (granting temporary active gadgets like force fields or energy blasts), special rule-bending Events, Heal stations, Infinite focus/ammo rooms, and Progression rooms packed with Battery Cells.
- Permanent Meta-Progression in Reed's Lab: Even after a run wraps up, your progress carries forward into Reed's Lab, permanently unlocking new equipment, encounter events, and high-risk difficulty modifiers that increase rewards on subsequent runs.
Invisible Woman and Doctor Doom in Action With New Music by Tee Lopes
The 18-minute walkthrough also highlights Doctor Doom and the Invisible Woman's tag-team combos in action across the randomized castle stages. Susan Storm's light-bending barriers, crowd-control spheres, and seamless integration with the Cosmic Swap tag mechanic prove particularly effective when keeping Doom Bots at bay under tight time limits.
Rounding out the expansion are brand-new chiptune-infused tracks composed by Tee Lopes alongside unlockable character color palettes rewarded for toppling Doctor Doom at the end of a run.
My Perspective
After breathing hundreds of hours of replayability into Streets of Rage 4 and TMNT: Shredder's Revenge with their Survival modes, Dotemu and Tribute Games once again prove they know how to build meaningful beat 'em up expansions. Pairing the pressure of a rising Siege Gauge with permanent unlocks inside Reed Richards' lab gives Marvel Cosmic Invasion the exact roguelite loop it needed so players have a reason to master Sue Storm and Doctor Doom far beyond a single campaign playthrough.
