Manairons Launches Today on Nintendo Switch 2 in 4K at 60 FPS: Why the Free Upgrade Waits Until December 11

Just three weeks after making its debut on Nintendo's original hybrid console, Manairons is stepping up to current-generation portable hardware. Barcelona-based publisher JanduSoft and Catalan media group 3Cat have officially launched Manairons: Nintendo Switch 2 Edition today, October 29, 2026, on the Nintendo eShop for $24.99 (€24.99). While the native port brings welcome 4K and 60 FPS upgrades, it arrives with an unusual six-week wait for players who already bought the original Switch release earlier this month.
4K Resolution, 60 FPS, and a Smaller 2.3 GB File Size on Nintendo Switch 2
Originally released on February 19, 2026 for PC (Steam) and PlayStation 5 before arriving on Xbox Series X|S and the original Nintendo Switch on October 8, the Unreal Engine-powered 3D action-platformer now has a dedicated build tailored for Nintendo's newest system. Following a packed week of Nintendo Indie World October 2026 Switch 2 announcements, JanduSoft dropped its upgraded edition straight onto the digital storefront.
According to the official technical specifications published by JanduSoft on the Nintendo eShop, the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition delivers four notable improvements over the previous version:
- Resolution and Frame Rate: Full support for up to 4K resolution when docked alongside a smooth 60 frames per second (60 FPS) target during exploration and flute combat.
- Visual Fidelity: Higher-quality textures across the miniature-scale environments and smoking factory interiors of Vilamont.
- Audio and Localization: Linear PCM surround sound support and full text localization in English, French, Spanish, German, and Catalan.
- Compact Install Size: Estimated storage required on Nintendo Switch 2 drops to just 2.3 GB, down from 5.54 GB on the original Switch, freeing up precious space on internal memory and microSD Express cards.
Free Upgrade Path: Why October 8 Switch Buyers Have to Wait Until December 11
The biggest catch surrounding today's launch involves existing owners. JanduSoft confirmed that players who already purchased Manairons on the original Nintendo Switch are eligible for a free upgrade to the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition at no extra cost, avoiding even the small regional fee seen in today's Urban Myth Dissolution Center Switch 2 Edition rollout.
However, that free upgrade is not live today. Instead, the publisher announced that existing Nintendo Switch owners will only be able to claim their free Nintendo Switch 2 Edition upgrade starting December 11, 2026. In practice, anyone who picked up the game at launch on October 8,just twenty-one days ago,has to wait six full weeks to access the 4K and 60 FPS enhancements that new Switch 2 buyers can download right now.
Flute Combat and Factory Sabotage Rooted in Catalan Pyrenean Folklore
Beneath its vibrant 3D platforming exterior, Manairons draws directly from the mountain legends of the Catalan Pyrenees. Players step into the tiny boots of Nai, a manairó,a mythical, hyper-industrious little creature traditionally kept locked inside a magical wooden container known as a canut.
Freed after centuries of captivity by a timely witch, Nai discovers that a greedy, zero-charisma landowner named Llorenç has stolen the canut and used its ancient magic to industrialize the peaceful mountain village of Vilamont. With local shops shuttered, townsfolk hiding indoors, and fellow Manairons forced into round-the-clock factory labor, Nai sets out across miniature-scale workshops armed with a magical flute. Learning ancient melodies allows players to solve environmental puzzles, command or knock out corrupted Manairons in flute-based combat, uncover hidden collectibles, and topple zone bosses.
My Perspective
Let's be real for a second: I love everything about the creative pitch behind Manairons. Pulling from Pyrenean folklore to cast you as a tiny, stressed-out magical creature wrecking an industrial baron's factories with a flute is the kind of regional charm indie platformers need more of. Getting a native Nintendo Switch 2 build that hits 4K and 60 FPS while shrinking the install size from 5.54 GB down to 2.3 GB is genuinely impressive optimization work from JanduSoft.
That said, holding the free upgrade hostage until December 11 makes zero sense to me. The original Switch version only came out on October 8,three weeks ago! Telling your most loyal day-one buyers that the shiny 60 FPS Switch 2 version is live on the eShop today, but they have to sit on their hands for six weeks before claiming their free upgrade, feels needlessly punitive. When the 2.3 GB build is already sitting on Nintendo's servers right now, making early adopters wait until mid-December is a baffling way to thank them for their support.
