“As a Player, I'm Done”: After Winning the Shanghai Major, Katowice, and Cologne With Team Spirit, Leonid "chopper" Vishnyakov Retires From Competitive CS2

A defining chapter in modern Counter-Strike 2 history officially came to a close on November 7, 2026. At 29 years old, veteran Russian in-game leader Leonid "chopper" Vishnyakov has confirmed his permanent retirement from professional play as Team Spirit formally announced the conclusion of his contract after more than seven years with the organization.
Seven Years With Team Spirit and a Historic Trophy Cabinet
Joining Team Spirit in March 2019 after first making waves on the international stage with Vega Squadron during the ELEAGUE Atlanta 2017 Major qualifier, Leonid Vishnyakov transitioned from an aggressive rifler into the squad's full-time captain and in-game leader (IGL). Working closely alongside head coach Sergey "hally" Shavaev, he laid the tactical foundation of the roster and guided the meteoric rise of young superstar Danil "donk" Kryshkovets alongside star AWPer Dmitry "sh1ro" Sokolov.
Under his leadership, Team Spirit assembled one of the most dominant championship runs across the transition from CS:GO to Counter-Strike 2, lifting nine major international trophies. The Russian captain steered his roster to title victories at IEM Katowice 2024, the BLAST Premier: Spring Final 2024 in London over Natus Vincere, and the ultimate crown at the Perfect World Shanghai Major 2024 in December 2024.
Far from slowing down after becoming a world champion, chopper completed Counter-Strike's prestigious triple crown of cathedral events by capturing BLAST Bounty Spring 2025, PGL Astana 2025, and IEM Cologne 2025. Moved to the inactive bench on December 18, 2025 following the Budapest Major, where long-time teammate Boris "magixx" Vorobiev stepped into the IGL role alongside the returning Myroslav "zont1x" Plakhotia, the 29-year-old veteran never returned to active competition.

"As a Player, I'm Done": Competitive Burnout After a Decade at the Top
Addressing his fans on his official Telegram channel, Leonid "chopper" Vishnyakov spoke candidly about the mental toll that led him to hang up his mouse after more than a decade on the professional circuit:
"I won't be playing anymore. In the future, I'll consider coaching, but as a player, I'm done. I'm completely burned out from my pro career."
Reflecting on his formal departure from Team Spirit upon the expiration of his contract, the former captain also shared an emotional farewell message regarding his time with the club:
"A very large stage of my life has come to an end. Team Spirit is not just an organization, but in many ways a family. Here, I gained enormous life experience and traveled a long path together with people with whom we built not just a team, but an entire organization. There is naturally a feeling of nostalgia and a touch of sadness when leaving behind something that was such a huge part of your daily life for so long."
In its official tribute, Team Spirit praised its long-serving captain as an institutional icon: "Dear Lenya, thank you for everything! Over the past seven years, we've shared hundreds of memorable moments and victories that will forever remain a part of Team Spirit. As captain, you led us to become world champions, won Cologne, Katowice, and many other trophies, etching Team Spirit's name in gold in the history of competitive CS. You will always be our legend."

Full-Time Streaming and Leaving the Door Open to Coaching
Since stepping back from the starting lineup at the end of 2025, the 29-year-old has poured his energy into full-time Twitch streaming, casual FACEIT pugs, and high-profile community watch parties while the tier-one circuit prepares for the new Best-of-5 Grand Final format at the PGL CS2 Singapore Major. Content creation has allowed him to stay closely connected to the competitive scene without enduring the grueling travel schedule of international LANs.
The relentless tactical pressure placed on modern tier-one callers has never been heavier, a reality recently underscored by karrigan and Falcons struggling to convert their own map picks. While chopper has closed the door on ever competing again as an active rifler, his championship pedigree and mid-round reading of the game make him a natural candidate for a head coaching role once he decides to return to the server.
The Strategist's Take
It is easy to reduce Team Spirit's 2024 and 2025 trophy dominance to donk's jaw-dropping rating numbers, but doing so misses the tactical spine that made those runs possible. Whenever I break down demos from the Shanghai Major or IEM Katowice with Grimtag, one pattern stands out on every map: Leonid "chopper" Vishnyakov knew exactly how to unleash a generational star without ever losing structural control of the round.
Taking the most thankless entry pathing, calling mid-round rotations on the fly, and anchoring space so sh1ro could lock down late-round AWP angles required total selflessness. Very few captains in Counter-Strike history can claim trophies at Katowice, Cologne, and a Valve Major while mentoring the next generation of their organization. Stepping away on his own terms with a full trophy cabinet is a fitting exit for a true floor general.
