23 Years Later, Secret F-Zero GX Cheat Codes Finally Unlock Hidden Arcade Content

Released in 2003 on the Nintendo GameCube, F-Zero GX still stands as the pinnacle of high-speed futuristic racing. Twenty-three years after its launch, the masterpiece co-developed by Nintendo and Amusement Vision has finally surrendered its most elusive secrets.
Japanese researcher and speedrunner BTEST4HE recently uncovered a series of hardcoded cheat codes that lay dormant in the game files for more than two decades. These hidden inputs allow players to unlock elusive arcade content without ever tracking down an original arcade cabinet.
Back in 2003, the GameCube release was closely paired with F-Zero AX, an arcade counterpart running on the Triforce hardware co-engineered by Sega, Nintendo, and Namco. In order to get exclusive tracks, pilots, and custom parts onto a home console, players had to physically insert their GameCube Memory Card into an arcade cabinet in Japan.
The only other path meant conquering Master difficulty cups and surviving Story Mode on Very Hard. That grueling challenge quickly earned a reputation as one of the most punishing solo campaigns in Nintendo history.
For collectors and players passionate about high-speed retro racers and hidden unlocks, this revelation changes how we experience the classic GameCube original today.
Four Controllers Required for the Mythical Gold Parts
The most fascinating discovery involves the legendary Gold Parts, a set of custom machine components once considered impossible to obtain outside of temporary Japanese promotional distributions. Sega developers devised an ingenious hardware lock to keep them hidden.
To enter these codes within the Customize > F-Zero Shop menu, you must plug four physical GameCube controllers into ports 1 through 4. The entire button sequence must be inputted simultaneously across all four controllers at the exact same millisecond.
Because the input timing is extraordinarily tight, community members suggest having three friends help or using a metronome to nail the simultaneous button presses.
Here are the exact button inputs to execute across all four controllers at once (directions correspond to the D-Pad):
- Thunderstorm (Gold Body): X, Z, Y, Z, X, Z, Y, X
- El Dorado (Gold Cockpit): X, Right, X, Z, Y, Left, Left, Z
- Chrono Symphony (Gold Booster): Left, Right, Z, Right, Left, X, Right, Z
- Bahamut (Gold Body): Y, Y, Z, Right, Left, Z, X, Y
- Gladiator (Gold Frame): Right, Z, X, Left, Left, Right, Z, X
Once the sequence triggers successfully, each gold part appears immediately in the shop, ready for purchase with standard in-game race tickets.
Solo Codes for AX Tracks and Dark Schneider
Dataminers also uncovered three single-controller codes that can be entered using player 1 alone. These inputs save players dozens of hours of trial and error while filling out the machine roster.
Inside the F-Zero Shop menu, enter any of the following sequences with a single controller:
- Unlock All F-Zero AX Tracks: X, X, Left, Right, Y, Z, Z, Y, Left, Right, X, Left, Right, Z, X, Right, Left, Y, Y
- Unlock All F-Zero AX Machines: X, Y, Left, Right, Z, Z, Right, Left, Y, X, Z, Z, Y, Y, Right, Right, Right
- Unlock Dark Schneider (Deathborn): Z, Z, Z, X, X, X, X, Y, Y, Left, Left, Right, Right, Right, Y, Y
As discussions around retro hardware preservation and classic Nintendo software continue to grow, this finding highlights just how much ingenuity was packed into sixth-generation discs.
Twenty-three years later, Amusement Vision's final locks have crumbled. If your purple lunchbox and four wavebirds are still nearby, a fresh trip to Mute City is officially calling.
