Wardogs Season 2 Will Pay Players Cash and XP to Join Losing Blue Team

Multiplayer game balancing usually relies on subtle weapon stat tweaks, recoil increases, or map obstacle repositioning. For Season 2 of tactical shooter Wardogs, developer Bulkhead is throwing conventional design out the window with an audacious strategy.

Faced with hard telemetry showing that the blue team, known as Lonestar, suffers from a notoriously low win rate, the studio decided to literally pay players to switch sides.

The Lonestar Dilemma: Fixing a Notoriously Low Win Rate

Faction imbalances plague competitive multiplayer games when map layouts or objective distances unintentionally favor one side. When one faction consistently loses, matchmaking spirals as veteran players refuse to queue for the disadvantaged squad.

In Wardogs, Lonestar became widely recognized as the losing side, creating a frustrating loop for matchmaking and team balance.

Speaking in the studio's "Road to Season 2" developer update, Bulkhead CEO Joe Brammer addressed the disparity directly, framing the bold solution as a community-driven experiment.

Cash Bonuses and Bakurani Spawns: Bulkhead's Social Experiment

Starting with the launch of Season 2 on October 15, 2026, any player who queues up for Lonestar will receive hefty in-game cash rewards and bonus match XP. Exclusive victory multipliers will also be active throughout the season to reward squads who carry the blue team to victory.

Map design is receiving adjustments alongside the monetary incentives. A brand-new spawn point, called the Bakurani spawn, is being introduced to eliminate oppressive spawn traps and provide cleaner sightlines for the blue team.

The newly added Bakurani spawn provides better defensive positioning for Lonestar operatives.

This economic incentive arrives at a key time, as competitive PC shooters navigate shifting player engagement patterns across demanding live-service formats.

Seasonal Wipes: Long-Term XP Progression Remains Intact

Bulkhead also clarified how progression wipes will operate going forward. While inventories and weapon stashes will reset between seasons to level the competitive playing field, players will permanently retain their overall XP progression.

This safeguard ensures that high-ranking soldiers keep their hard-earned rank status without having their grind erased every few months. Whether bags of virtual cash can actually motivate a community to turn a notorious losing faction into a winning juggernaut will be proven once Season 2 goes live.

Grimtag's Take: Can Cold Cash Break the Blue Team Curse?

Let's be completely honest as Wardogs players: we have all spam-clicked like maniacs upon entering the lobby just to secure a spot on the Red or Green squad. On the live servers, Blue became the textbook definition of the "loser team", caught in a vicious cycle where seasoned squads simply refused to show up.

Here's hoping Bulkhead's blatant financial bribery and fat XP bonuses actually flip the script and rescue Lonestar's win rate. When standard balancing fails, pure in-game greed is usually the fastest way to get mercenaries to do the heavy lifting!
