After Michael Myers and Pinhead, Chucky Leaves Dead by Daylight on November 24: Why Behaviour Still Keeps an 'Open Invitation'

Chucky The Good Guy in Dead by Daylight ahead of his November 24 2026 store removal

After more than nine years of relentless stalking from Michael Myers and nearly four years of hooked chains from Pinhead, another towering slasher icon is preparing to leave the digital shelves of Dead by Daylight. Starting on November 24, 2026, at 11:00 AM ET, the Chucky Chapter will be delisted from all first-party storefronts and the in-game store. Addressing growing community concern over this string of high-profile departures, Behaviour Interactive has issued an official statement explaining why licensed chapters vanish and confirming that every departed killer holds a permanent pass to return.

An 'Open Invitation' to Rejoin the Fog Despite Expiring Contracts

In its message to players, Behaviour Interactive emphasized that losing iconic characters is never a creative choice, but rather the unavoidable consequence of fixed-term licensing deals reaching their expiration date when renewal talks fail to cross the finish line.

"As with all live service games, players can expect regular updates, new content, and occasional changes over time. Our goal is always to keep licenses in our game forever. When they have to go away, it's because, despite our best efforts, it wasn't possible to retain them. Dead by Daylight will always be gaming's House of Horror, and horror icons will continue to have an open invitation to join (or rejoin) us in the Fog."

That open-door policy is more than just polite PR. Veterans of the asymmetric survival horror hit have already witnessed a major licensed resurrection firsthand: in November 2021, the Stranger Things chapter (featuring The Demogorgon, Nancy Wheeler, Steve Harrington, and the Hawkins National Laboratory map) was pulled from stores when Netflix explored its own gaming initiatives, only to make a celebrated return to Dead by Daylight two years later in November 2023.

First unleashed into the Fog in November 2023 with original voice work by Brad Dourif, Chucky leaves digital stores on November 24, 2026.

What Changes on November 24, 2026 for Chucky, Tiffany, and Their Perks

Since joining the roster on November 28, 2023 as The Good Guy, Chucky has stood out as one of the most mechanically distinct Killers in the game thanks to his third-person camera, tiny footprint, and unhinged voice lines recorded by original actor Brad Dourif, alongside Jennifer Tilly reprising her role for the Legendary Tiffany Valentine (The Bride of Chucky) outfit.

When the delisting takes effect on November 24, 2026, Behaviour Interactive will follow its established preservation rules for players:

  • Permanent Access for Existing Owners: Anyone who purchases or unlocks The Good Guy, his chapter, or his associated cosmetics before November 24 will keep full, permanent access to them in matches, including Bloodweb progression and Prestige rewards.
  • 50% Last-Chance Discount: Leading up to the November 24 cutoff, the Chucky Chapter and its cosmetics are discounted by 50% across PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
  • Generic Perk Conversion: Players who already own Chucky before the deadline will keep his three teachable perks under their original names and flavor text (Hex: Two Can Play, Friends 'Til The End, and Batteries Included). For everyone else, those exact mechanics will remain accessible in the general perk pool under new generic names (Hex: Eye For An Eye, One Track Mind, and Gaining Steam) so gameplay balance stays intact.

Why Horror Rightsholders Are Pulling Their Icons Back One by One

While occasional contract expirations are standard in live-service gaming, the recent wave of removals in a title that consistently headlines our best horror games to stream for Halloween points to a broader shift across the entertainment industry. For years, licensing classic slashers to Dead by Daylight was the easiest way for film studios to monetize dormant horror IP in gaming without funding a full-scale development team.

Michael Myers The Shape in Dead by Daylight Halloween Chapter
After anchoring Dead by Daylight's licensed roster since October 2016, Michael Myers was delisted in January 2026.

Over the past two years, however, several rightsholders have opted to reclaim exclusivity around their own standalone video game releases. The removal of Pinhead (The Cenobite) in April 2025 paved the way for Clive Barker's franchise to stand on its own, culminating in the recent sales success of Hellraiser: Revival at Saber Interactive. Similarly, the departure of Michael Myers and Laurie Strode on January 19, 2026 aligned with new standalone projects built around John Carpenter's Halloween universe, echoing how Leatherface exited the store in September 2023 right as The Texas Chain Saw Massacre launched.

Unlike Myers or Pinhead, Chucky does not currently have a standalone console or PC horror game announced, with his recent video game appearances limited to crossovers in Funko Fusion and Call of Duty: Warzone. Even so, rising licensing fees and stricter three-year renewal windows mean that even gaming's biggest horror hub can no longer guarantee eternal tenancy.

My Take

This is the inevitable trap of building a live-service empire on rented pop culture. Behaviour Interactive can leave the front door unlocked with an open invitation all day long, but the economics of horror licensing have fundamentally changed. As long as the rightsholders behind Halloween or Hellraiser had no skin in the video game market, cashing royalty checks from Dead by Daylight was easy money. The moment they greenlight their own standalone games, they pull their icons out of the Fog to avoid competing against their own characters. Existing players keep their toys, sure, but for any newcomer booting up the self-proclaimed "House of Horror" at the end of 2026 only to find that Michael Myers, Pinhead, Leatherface, and Chucky are all locked behind expired contracts, the museum is starting to look half-empty.
