World of Warcraft: Forever Buffs Tauren Plainsrunning to 60% Speed at Level 1 and Drops Warpath Launch Trailer

Tauren Hunter in World of Warcraft: Forever - Plainsrunning racial ability buff

With the global server launch locked in for November 4, 2026 at 3:00 p.m. PST (midnight CET on November 5), Blizzard Entertainment is making its final pre-launch moves for World of Warcraft: Forever. Just hours after players weathered the name reservation launch delay and Battle.net error BLZ51934200, the development team rolled out a sweeping last-minute racial ability balance patch on the beta alongside the game's official animated launch trailer, Warpath.

Plainsrunning Hits 60% Speed: Tauren Turn Into Level 1 Racecars

The standout change dominating community discussions across both factions comes straight from the October 26 and October 27 beta patch notes. Resurrected from the original 2004 alpha build of vanilla World of Warcraft, the iconic Tauren racial ability Plainsrunning has received a massive pre-launch speed boost.

Previously capped at 30% bonus movement speed in earlier beta builds, Plainsrunning now grants 2% movement speed per stack (up from 1%) for every 5 seconds spent running continuously. That doubles the ceiling to a whopping 60% movement speed on foot, matching the exact speed of a level 40 ground mount right from level 1 across Mulgore and the Barrens.

The ability still carries strict mechanical trade-offs: reaching the full 60% cap requires 2 minutes and 30 seconds (150 seconds for 30 stacks) of uninterrupted running, and the speed bonus decays as soon as you stop moving or take damage. To balance out this cross-zone mobility, Blizzard removed the old 3% mounted speed bonus for Tauren and reverted Endurance back to its classic form (a flat 5% base health increase, stripping away the temporary critical damage and healing modifier).

Dwarves, Orcs, Humans, and Undead: Restoring Distinct Racial Identity

Beyond the bovine speed surge, this final tuning pass marks a deliberate shift in Blizzard's design philosophy for World of Warcraft: Forever. While old-school weapon skill specializations (swords, maces, axes) remain permanently gone so raid rosters are never forced into a single race for weapon loot, the developers walked back several generic critical strike passives introduced earlier in October to bring back classic racial flavor:

  • Dwarves: The generic Earth Fury passive (+2% critical strike damage and healing) has been removed and replaced by Artisan's Precision, which increases hit chance with both physical attacks and spells by 1%. Paired with Stoneform and the 5% damage bonus against beasts from Big Game Hunter, Dwarves step into launch as top-tier PvE contenders.
  • Orcs: The generic critical strike passive (Savage) was stripped out to restore Command, boosting Hunter and Warlock pet damage by 5%, while the cooldown on Blood Fury has been brought back down to 2 minutes.
  • Humans: The Ruthless critical strike passive was trimmed from 2% down to 1%, while The Human Spirit was doubled from 5% to a hefty 10% Spirit bonus.
  • Undead (Forsaken): In a follow-up October 27 hotfix, the internal cooldown on Touch of the Grave was cut from 25 seconds down to 15 seconds alongside the classic Will of the Forsaken.
  • Skyborne: The newly introduced elf race tied to the elemental plane of Skywall retains its 10-second air glide active (Walk on Air) and 1% haste passive (Wind Blessed), split by faction-specific kits (Alliance Skyborne can roll Mages and double their health and mana regeneration via Read Ley Line, while Horde Skyborne unlock Shamans and a 10% movement speed blessing through Skysight).

Warpath: High-Octane Animated Launch Trailer by Brunch Studio

To set the stage for next week's realm openings, Blizzard also premiered the official World of Warcraft: Forever animated music video launch trailer titled Warpath. Animated by Paris-based Brunch Studio, the cinematic showcase pairs kinetic faction warfare across Azeroth with the heavy vocal collaboration track End of You, performed by Poppy, Amy Lee (Evanescence), and Courtney LaPlante (Spiritbox).

My Take

Digging Plainsrunning out from the 2004 alpha graveyard and cranked all the way up to 60% speed at level 1 is the exact kind of bold, nostalgic madness a true Classic+ project needs. Let's be real: watching a low-level Tauren barrel down the road in the Barrens at level 40 mount speed without spending a single gold piece is going to set Alliance forum threads on fire for months. Still, needing two and a half minutes of uninterrupted straight-line running without taking a single boar tusk to the shin keeps it from breaking combat or battleground engagements. More importantly, giving Dwarves 1% hit and restoring Orc pet damage just days before launch proves Blizzard realized that homogenizing every race into flat crit percentages was killing the soul of classic character building. November 4 cannot get here fast enough.
