Security Cameras, Free Friend's Pass, and Troy Baker: Co-Op Horror Game Beyond the Dark: Nightwatch Launches on Nintendo Switch 2

Waking up inside an unfamiliar manor while a shadowy entity feeds on your panic demands a partner who can keep a cool head under pressure. Launching today, October 22, 2026, exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2, Beyond the Dark: Nightwatch builds its entire survival loop around vocal communication and two-player asymmetry.

Developed in Unreal Engine 5 in Avignon, France, by Atlantis Studio, this cooperative horror adventure brings together a remarkable roster of industry veterans. The independent French studio was co-founded by Nico Augusto and Ru Weerasuriya, the former Ready at Dawn co-founder and creative director behind The Order: 1886 and Lone Echo.

The Explorer and the Watcher: Two Perspectives Against the Gloam

Every puzzle in Beyond the Dark: Nightwatch relies on a strict division of roles between two partners. Player 1 steps into the shoes of the Explorer in a first-person perspective, creeping through dark corridors to gather clues and unlock hidden mechanisms.

Meanwhile, Player 2 serves as the Watcher, monitoring the building's closed-circuit security cameras, blueprints, and tactical instruments. The Watcher must decipher environmental documents, trigger remote doors, and warn their teammate whenever the stalking entity known as The Gloam closes in.

To bring this shifting, fear-feeding creature to life, the Avignon team partnered with Kyoto-based developer Q-Games, which also handles publishing duties across Asia. Q-Games contributed its proprietary Cloudly volumetric rendering technology to animate the entity's unsettling shadow tendrils in real time.

Troy Baker on Voice Cast and Original Score by Oscar Araujo

Beyond its dual-perspective mechanics, the French production places heavy emphasis on audio immersion and narrative tension. The voice cast features veteran actor Troy Baker (The Last of Us, Death Stranding, BioShock Infinite), anchoring the mystery as the duo digs deeper into the house's past.

The original soundtrack is composed by award-winning Spanish composer Oscar Araujo, best known for his orchestral work on the Castlevania: Lords of Shadow trilogy. His brooding acoustic arrangements dynamically shift as the threat level escalates from room to room.

This push for fresh multiplayer concepts on Nintendo's new hybrid hardware echoes the console announcement of chaotic co-op hit Pratfall on Nintendo Switch 2, though Atlantis Studio trades slapstick comedy for pure psychological dread.

Price, Co-Op Modes, and Free Friend's Pass via GameShare

Available now on the Nintendo eShop for $19.99 / €19.99 (2,480 JPY in Japan), the PEGI 12 horror adventure supports three cooperative playstyles: couch split-screen, local wireless play, and online multiplayer.

Crucially, Atlantis Studio has included both a free Friend's Pass and full support for the Nintendo Switch 2's native GameShare feature. Only one player needs to purchase a copy of the game to invite a friend into the full two-player campaign at no extra cost.

Late October is shaping up as a standout window for distinctive indie releases on the platform, arriving just days ahead of the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 release of action-strategy gem Burggeist.

My Perspective: Asymmetric Local Play and GameShare Are Where Switch 2 Truly Shines

Having spent countless late nights playing cooperative horror games with a headset on, I find that asymmetric two-player design is a natural match for the Nintendo Switch 2 ecosystem. Splitting the first-person dread of the Explorer from the surveillance monitors of the Watcher turns solitary jump-scares into a genuine test of communication and trust.

Seeing an Avignon studio led by Ru Weerasuriya and Nico Augusto team up with Q-Games, Troy Baker, and Oscar Araujo for a twenty-dollar exclusive with GameShare built right in shows how smart scope can outshine bloated budgets. Now comes the only hard part: deciding which player has to walk into the dark corridor first tonight.
