In an eye-opening interview with the Associated Press, Tony Estanguet, three-time Olympic gold medalist and co-President of the Paris 2024 Olympic Bid Committee, confirmed that he is officially open to integrating esports into the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
We have to look at it because we cannot say, "That is not us. That is not what the Olympics are about." The youth are passionate about esports and this entire culture. Let us look at it. Let us meet with them. Let us see if we can build meaningful bridges.

French lawmakers had already taken pioneering legislative steps by establishing a dedicated legal framework for employment contracts between pro esports athletes and their teams.

Far beyond symbolic encouragement, the very fact that the Paris 2024 Bid Committee actively seeks direct dialogue with the IOC (International Olympic Committee) represents watershed institutional validation for the competitive gaming ecosystem.
Esports at the Olympics: A Multi-Year Battle for Recognition
The conversation is officially underway, and esports stakeholders and advocates (including yours truly) have already initiated discussions with Olympic organizers to make the case for esports on the Olympic stage.
This campaign will not be an easy ride, particularly since the final event roster for the 2024 Games will be finalized by 2019.
That leaves a tight window to champion the legitimacy of professional gamers and global esports, starting immediately ahead of the upcoming IOC Executive Board meetings in Lima.
I believe it is essential to discuss this with the IOC and the esports community to better understand how the ecosystem operates and why it commands such phenomenal global success.

Esports at the Olympic Games: Momentum Sparked in Asia
It is worth noting that the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, have already confirmed the inclusion of esports as a full medal event. There is little doubt that this historic precedent has inspired French organizers to look closely at digital competition.
While the exact titles that could be presented before Olympic delegates have yet to be disclosed, it stands to reason that premier, established esports titles will form the core of any pitch.
Blockbuster titles like League of Legends, Rocket League, Counter-Strike, and strategy pillars like StarCraft II naturally represent the leading contenders for international competition.
However, the unique challenge for Olympic integration is that time moves at lightning speed in gaming. Titles, competitive metas, and gaming platforms evolve constantly, and a brand-new title can emerge and dominate the pro circuit within months.
Games that were barely known a few years ago could easily become the defining competitive arenas of the next Olympic cycle. We will learn more in the months ahead.
