Trailing 6-0 in Game 3 Before Canyon’s Dragon Steal: How Gen.G Crushed Invictus Gaming 3-0 for Chovy’s First World Championship Final

Gen.G vs Invictus Gaming on stage during the League of Legends Worlds 2026 Semifinals in Allen Texas

After years of heartbreak in the international knockout stages, Gen.G left zero room for doubt on Saturday, November 7, 2026. Live from the Credit Union of Texas Event Center in Allen, Texas, the LCK first seed dismantled LPL fourth seed Invictus Gaming in a commanding 3-0 sweep (71 kills to 36, 10 dragons to 6, and 27 towers destroyed against 9). With this victory, the South Korean powerhouse books its first-ever World Championship Grand Final appearance under the Gen.G banner and sends star mid laner Jeong "Chovy" Ji-hoon to the first Worlds title match of his League of Legends career.

Clinical Macro in Games 1 and 2: Canyon and Ruler Suffocate the LPL Fourth Seed

Entering the semifinals undefeated without dropping a single map all tournament (following a 3-0 Swiss Stage run and a 3-0 quarterfinal sweep over LYON Gaming), Gen.G faced an Invictus Gaming roster riding high after eliminating Top Esports 3-1. From the opening minutes of Game 1, however, the Korean champions systematically shut down the signature early aggression of veterans TheShy and Rookie.

Playing on blue side in the opener, jungler Kim "Canyon" Geon-bu set the tone at 3:45 by securing First Blood onto TheShy's Kled with his Qiyana, while Kiin absorbed top-side dive pressure on Olaf. Building a 48-CS and 1,788-gold lead over Wei's Vi by the 15-minute mark, Canyon broke the map wide open around the Voidgrubs with a four-for-one teamfight victory. Stacking neutral objectives relentlessly to claim the Hextech Soul at 28:30 and Baron Nashor at 30:10, Canyon (7/1/12, 32,202 damage) and Park "Ruler" Jae-hyuk's Jhin (9/2/11, 32,904 damage) closed out Game 1 in 33 minutes and 38 seconds with a 29-9 kill score (+14.6k gold).

Game 2 followed the exact same methodical script. Although Invictus Gaming drew First Blood at 6:23 through the Lucian-Milio bot lane of JiaQi and Meiko, an ambitious turret dive immediately backfired against the positioning of Ruler's Ashe, gifting two kills back to Gen.G. While Kiin's Gwen (6/2/6) and Chovy's Ahri (6/1/10) built a 4,047-gold and 58-CS team lead at 15 minutes against TheShy's Rumble and Rookie's Sylas, Canyon delivered a deathless clinic on Lee Sin at 5/0/15 (76.9% kill participation). Punishing an aggressive mid-lane dash from JiaQi to secure three kills and an early Baron Nashor at 21:30, Gen.G wiped IG for an Ace around the third dragon, locked in a second consecutive Hextech Soul at 28:33, and shattered the Nexus at 29 minutes and 16 seconds (26-9 in kills, +14.5k gold).

Down 6-0 in Game 3: Canyon's Dragon Heist and Duro's Series-Sealing Hook

With their backs against the wall at 0-2, Invictus Gaming threw everything into the early game of Map 3. Pressuring bot lane from level 1 on Alistar, Meiko pried open the Korean jungle for invades from Wei's Naafiri, while a four-man top dive handed First Blood and a double kill to Rookie's Locke (who finished the game at 11/2/5). By the 15-minute mark, the LPL fourth seed held a 6-0 kill lead and nearly 4,000 gold in hand.

Rather than crumbling under pressure, Gen.G absorbed the storm and punished TheShy's Gnar out of position near the Baron pit to halt the bleeding. The true turning point arrived in the 30th minute. After Chovy split the Chinese formation with his Taliyah wall (3/3/11, 33,470 damage), Invictus Gaming pivoted onto the Mountain Drake. On Wukong, Canyon slipped into the pit and stole the dragon right out from under Wei at 30:18, sparking a devastating collapse that Gen.G immediately converted into Baron Nashor at 31:10.

Even after Invictus Gaming managed to claim the Mountain Soul at 35:53 by catching Ruler in the mid lane, Korean composure prevailed in the decisive late-game standoff. In the 39th minute, JiaQi used an aggressive Arcane Shift forward on Ezreal, and support Duro instantly punished the mistake with a point-blank dredge line and ultimate on Nautilus. Backed by 45,923 damage and 437 CS from Ruler's Yunara (7/3/7), Gen.G tore through the remaining IG lineup to destroy the Nexus at 40 minutes and 08 seconds (16-18 in kills).

Chovy Breaks the Semifinal Curse Ahead of the Barclays Center Finale in Brooklyn

Speaking on stage moments after the final Nexus fell, Chovy expressed visible relief at finally shattering the Worlds semifinal barrier that had haunted his career. The mid laner admitted that overcoming the weight of expectations and managing internal pressure had been his biggest hurdle, adding that he simply wanted to enjoy the moment before thanking the roaring Texas crowd.

For Ruler, who racked up 23 kills, 33 assists, and nearly 995 damage per minute across the three maps, the victory marks a return to the World Championship Grand Final nine years after he lifted the Summoner's Cup in 2017. Gen.G now flies east to the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, where the Worlds 2026 Grand Final will kick off on Saturday, November 14, 2026, at 2:00 PM EST (8:00 PM CET).

The LCK champions will await the winner of Sunday's blockbuster second semifinal between Bilibili Gaming, fresh off a 97-minute 3-0 quarterfinal sweep over Dplus KIA, and defending world champion Faker. On the other side of the bracket, T1 punched their semifinal ticket by defeating Karmine Corp 3-1 and now stand one series away from an all-LCK title clash in Brooklyn.

My Take

For years, I have watched Gen.G enter Worlds as the tournament favorite only to tighten up the moment an elimination series turned chaotic. What impressed me most in Allen was not even the methodical macro of the first two games or Canyon's absurd 14/4/37 series KDA, but how this roster responded when trailing 6-0 in Game 3. Where past iterations of Gen.G might have bled out slowly out of caution, Kiin, Chovy, and Duro kept hunting for a single opening until Canyon stole that Mountain Drake and Duro caught JiaQi's Ezreal at the 39-minute mark. With Ruler playing at peak late-game form and the semifinal monkey finally off Chovy's back, whoever survives between T1 and BLG will need the series of a lifetime in Brooklyn on November 14.
