October 29 Launch Still Set for PS5, Xbox, and PC: Why Telltale Just Delayed The Wolf Among Us Remastered on Nintendo Switch

While the return to Fabletown looked locked in across all platforms for the end of the month, Telltale Games has just adjusted its release calendar less than two weeks before launch. In an official statement titled An Update for Our Nintendo Switch Fans, the studio announced that the Nintendo Switch version of The Wolf Among Us Remastered has been delayed to an unannounced date. Meanwhile, the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC editions remain firmly on track for October 29, 2026.

Extra Polish for Bigby Wolf's Nintendo Switch Debut

Unlike PlayStation, Xbox, and PC platforms that hosted the original five-episode season back in 2013, bringing Bigby Wolf's gritty detective thriller to Nintendo's hybrid console marks a franchise first. Telltale Games explained the last-minute delay by emphasizing its commitment to getting this inaugural handheld release right:

"Bringing The Wolf Among Us to Nintendo Switch for the very first time is an exciting moment for us! We don't take this lightly. With that in mind, we're taking some additional time to ensure we deliver the experience Nintendo players deserve. The Wolf Among Us Remastered will launch as planned on October 29 for PlayStation, Xbox, and PC. The Nintendo Switch version will follow at a later date."

The studio has not yet specified whether the Switch edition will arrive before the end of 2026 or slip into early 2027, thanking fans for their patience to ensure their first trip to Fabletown on Nintendo hardware is worth the wait.

October 29 Launch Confirmed on PS5, Xbox, and PC With 4K and Noir Mode

For players on home consoles or PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, the October 29, 2026 launch at $19.99 moves forward without a hitch. The remaster is also set to take the spotlight next Tuesday as part of the lineup for the October 20 ID@Xbox Showcase, where fresh footage will be shared ahead of launch day.

As covered in our full breakdown of The Wolf Among Us Remastered in 4K with Noir Mode, this updated package bundles all five episodes of the acclaimed prequel to Bill Willingham's Fables comic series alongside major visual and audio upgrades:

  • 4K Resolution and High Frame Rate: native 4K at 60 FPS on current-gen consoles, plus support for up to 120 FPS and 21:9 ultrawide monitors on PC.
  • Rebuilt Lighting and Textures: overhauled high-resolution character models, refined environmental shadows, and modernized neon lighting across 1986 Manhattan.
  • Dedicated Noir Mode: a custom black-and-white visual preset engineered scene by scene to mirror the stark contrast of classic graphic novels and detective cinema.
  • Over 55 Minutes of New Commentary: an exclusive roundtable featuring original developers and voice actors Adam Harrington (Bigby Wolf) and Erin Yvette (Snow White), bridging the gap while The Wolf Among Us 2 remains slated for 2027 in co-development with Deck Nine Games.

My Perspective

Seeing a Nintendo Switch port pulled from the release schedule just thirteen days before launch is undeniably frustrating if you were planning to unravel Fabletown's murder mystery in handheld mode. Still, I would much rather see Telltale Games take a few extra weeks to lock down frame pacing than repeat the notorious stuttering that plagued the studio's older console ports during heavy QTE sequences. With the PS5, Xbox, and PC versions still locked in for October 29, there is no better excuse to revisit Telltale's sharpest detective thriller with Noir Mode switched on.
