'Aura Farming': Nintendo Spotlights the Five Space Ninjas of Metroid Ravenous on Switch 2 Ahead of January 28

Two words of anime-inspired internet slang were all it took to send the Metroid community into overdrive. On November 4, 2026, the official Nintendo of America X account shared a new 17-second teaser for Metroid Ravenous captioned simply "Aura farming," racking up more than one million views in a matter of hours.
Launching exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2 on January 28, 2027, the 2.5D action-adventure sequel co-developed by Spanish studio MercurySteam and Nintendo EPD pits Samus Aran against a lethal squad of five Space Ninjas. According to Nintendo, these mechanically enhanced assassins battle and devour fallen warriors across the galaxy to claim their power.
Five Cybernetic Assassins Under Metallic Kasa Hats
After highlighting the brutality of Samus's opening ordeal through the recent close-up of her cracked visor on Switch 2, Nintendo's latest footage turns the camera directly onto the ambushers responsible for her fall. Stepping out of a thick mist inside a subterranean fortress, all five hunters wear sweeping dark cloaks paired with wide, red-trimmed metallic conical hats modeled after traditional Japanese kasa.
Despite their unified clan aesthetic, each member of the quintet features a distinct silhouette and cybernetic loadout. Standing front and center is the crimson-robed leader, sporting a diagonal chest strap with glowing pendants while four yellow eyes pierce through the shadow beneath his steel brim.

Looming to the left is a hulking heavyweight draped in oversized golden prayer beads, concealing sumo-style armor and a heavy bludgeon beneath his cloak. On the right flank stands a spiked-shoulder assassin outfitted with a mechanical right arm and wrist blade that strongly echo the engineering of the E.M.M.I. units from Metroid Dread.
Crouching in the left foreground is an insectoid tracker equipped with glowing red collar optics and a three-clawed gauntlet, while a fifth, taller silhouette lingers high in the background shadows.

Turning the Predators' Creed Against Them on January 28, 2027
Far from acting as mere visual spectacle, the faction's predatory creed ties directly into MercurySteam's core combat loop. Cast into the depths of an uncharted moon after the quintet's ambush, Samus must turn their "devour or be devoured" philosophy back on her pursuers by channeling the Metroid DNA awakened at the end of her previous mission.
Alongside her signature melee counter, water-running, and high-speed wall-warping, the bounty hunter can now siphon life energy and abilities straight from enemies using her glowing left arm. As detailed on the official Metroid Ravenous store page on Nintendo.com, the Switch 2 exclusive supports HDR and frame rates up to 120 Hz when it kicks off the 2027 video game release calendar on January 28, 2027.
My Perspective
Having Nintendo of America's social team drop TikTok slang like "Aura farming" to promote five cybernetic alien assassins in steel straw hats honestly made me laugh out loud. Jokes aside, MercurySteam's character silhouettes are doing serious heavy lifting here: between the gold-beaded bruiser, the E.M.M.I.-armed blader, and that four-eyed leader in crimson, you can read each boss archetype in a split second without a single line of dialogue. If hunting down all five of these ambushers at 120 Hz on Switch 2 comes anywhere close to the rush of parrying Raven Beak in Metroid Dread, my hands are more than ready for January 28.
