Mega Man: Dual Override Reveals Cook Man: How Capcom's Kung Fu Chef Joins the Robot Master Roster

Capcom is picking up the pace as it rolls out the boss lineup for Mega Man: Dual Override. Just days after showcasing the heavy armor and firepower of Tank Man, the studio has officially introduced the fourth Robot Master joining the twelfth mainline entry built for the franchise's 40th anniversary: Cook Man, a wandering chef who blends culinary obsession with high-speed flame martial arts.
Kung Fu Cooking, Bladed Braids, and a Giant Wok Arena
True to the classic series' tradition of quirky, personality-driven antagonists, Cook Man has a clear motive behind his uprising. Designed as a nomadic culinary robot desperate for public acclaim, he seizes control of one of the game's major oil and industrial storage facilities, converting its high-heat infrastructure into his own oversized kitchen stage.
Visually, Cook Man wears crimson armor styled after a double-breasted chef's coat with glowing green buttons, paired with a segmented metallic braid tipped with a cleaver-like blade. Capcom describes his combat discipline as "Kung Fu Cooking", combining acrobatic close-quarters strikes and slicing whip motions with sweeping fire attacks. His boss chamber drops players straight into a giant pan filled with oversized mechanical vegetables and ingredients under suspended heat lamps.
Four Robot Masters Confirmed So Far
With Cook Man now officially in the spotlight, half of the traditional eight-boss selection screen is taking shape. He joins three previously revealed Robot Masters introduced by Capcom over recent weeks:
- Twinkle Girl, built around high-speed mobility and dazzling projectile patterns;
- Jet Man, an aerial specialist focused on high-velocity air raids;
- Tank Man, a heavily armored supervisor of robotic petroleum reserves who went rogue after feeling unappreciated in his role;
- Cook Man, a close-range martial artist wielding culinary blades and flame techniques.
This focus on crisp visual telegraphing and expressive 2D boss patterns mirrors the craft seen in other upcoming precision platformers on next-gen handhelds, such as City of None on Nintendo Switch 2.
Dual Playable Heroes and the Risk-Reward Override System
Beyond its new roster of Robot Masters, Mega Man: Dual Override introduces two core gameplay pillars designed to evolve the 1987 blueprint at a time when classic 8-bit design is also being celebrated through projects like Angry Video Game Nerd 8-bit's physical NES cartridge release. First, players can choose between two playable protagonists with distinct kits: Mega Man retains his traditional Mega Buster and boss Special Weapons, while Proto Man relies on technical shield maneuvers, tactical combat data analysis, and close-quarters techniques that require careful heat management to avoid overheating.
Second, the titular Override mechanic allows either hero to temporarily bypass their internal limiters for a burst of firepower and speed. However, pushing the gauge too far triggers a mandatory cooldown state once the timer expires, leaving your character temporarily weakened and vulnerable during tight boss phases.
Mega Man: Dual Override is scheduled to launch in Spring 2027 across Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.
My Take
After an eight-year gap since Mega Man 11, Capcom's character design team clearly is not playing it safe with Dual Override. Cook Man stands out immediately thanks to his bladed braid animations and that giant wok arena, giving the fight a strong arcade identity before a single shot is fired. Pairing aggressive close-range bosses like him with Proto Man's shield mechanics and the high-risk Override burst should make boss speedruns and no-damage clears a treat to master next spring.
