PvEvP Gone and 21 New Stages Added: Why LET IT DIE: INFERNO Just Launched a Free PS5 and PC Demo Nearly a Year Later

Uncle Death in front of Hell Gate for the LET IT DIE: INFERNO free demo on PS5 and PC via Steam

Nearly a full year after its December 2025 launch, LET IT DIE: INFERNO is making a major push to win over skeptical action fans. Publisher GungHo Online Entertainment and developer Supertrick Games officially released a free playable demo today, October 21, 2026, for both PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam. The timing is no coincidence: this trial arrives right on the heels of the game's transformative Season 4 overhaul, which permanently retired the original PvEvP extraction format in favor of a dedicated PvE roguelite experience.

What Is Included in the LET IT DIE: INFERNO Free Demo

Available to download right now on the PlayStation Store and Steam, the new trial drops players into the boots of an immortal Raider parachuting from 30,000 feet straight into Hell Gate. Supervised by the skateboarding Grim Reaper Uncle Death, this shifting abyss opened up in the aftermath of the Earth Rage disaster and hides the Eye of the Reaper, an artifact hunted by both the Raiders Association and the ruthless Yotsuyama megacorporation.

In the free demo, players can battle through multiple procedural stages and upgrade their character up to Body Rank 3, sampling a slice of the full game's 20-plus unique stages. It showcases the dual-wielding weapon combat, deathblow finishers, and high-stakes roguelite survival loop where dying costs you not only your scavenged supplies and crafted gear, but your physical Body as well.

GungHo Online Entertainment notes two important restrictions for newcomers jumping into the trial: certain features are capped compared to the retail release, and save data from the demo cannot be carried over to the full version.

Why Now? Ditching Forced PvEvP for a Pure PvE Roguelite Loop

Releasing a playable demo ten months after the game's December 3, 2025 debut makes complete sense once you look at how dramatically LET IT DIE: INFERNO has evolved since launch. Moving away from the free-to-play model of the original 2016 Let It Die, Inferno originally launched at $24.99 around a tense PvEvP extraction structure where rival players could ambush you mid-run. However, community feedback overwhelmingly favored pure monster-slaying exploration over forced player ambushes.

Much like Scramble Knights Online's pivot away from 32-player Battle Royale toward cooperative Action-RPG dungeon crawling, Supertrick Games completely retooled its core loop. With the launch of Season 4 on September 8, 2026 (running through December 8, 2026), the studio permanently discontinued PvEvP Mode:

  • 100% PvE Exploration (Solo and Duo): diving into Hell Gate now revolves entirely around battling grotesque hybrid creatures and Yotsuyama forces, with Duo cooperative exploration still fully supported.
  • 21 New Maps and Branching Paths: Season 4 reshaped the chasm with 21 new stages and a branching progression system where clearing one stage opens multiple strategic routes deeper into the abyss based on your Body Rank.
  • PvP Contained to Dedicated Modes: competitive players can still clash separately in the Death Jamboree deathmatch mode (inherited from Deathverse: Let It Die) and KIL Matches, which recently received weapon balance tweaks in Patch 1.3.1.0 on October 6.
  • Exploring the Removal of Seasonal Wipes: during a recent Hell Gate Confessional Q&A with the Discord community, Director Shin confirmed that because the game is now fully focused on PvE, the team is actively exploring removing seasonal wipe and reset mechanics (Uncle Reset), alongside high-priority work on a skin customization (transmog) feature and post-final-boss content for Tier 6 bodies.

Up to 60% Off the Full Game Alongside the Demo Launch

Standing out amid Steam's record-breaking wave of over 21,000 game releases in 2026 requires lowering the barrier to entry, and GungHo Online Entertainment has paired the demo with a steep discount on the PlayStation Store. Normally priced at $24.99 (€24.99), the Standard Edition is currently 60% off at $9.99 on the US PlayStation Store through November 5, 2026 (and 50% off at €12.49 in Europe through November 4), alongside the Deluxe Edition ($44.99, bundling the Sasuke Body, Room Match creation, and 500 Death Metal) and Ultimate Edition ($59.99).

My Take

Credit where it is due: Supertrick Games actually listened to its players instead of stubbornly going down with the ship. Locking LET IT DIE: INFERNO behind a $24.99 paywall while forcing PvEvP extraction ganking alienated a lot of longtime Uncle Death fans at launch in late 2025, who simply wanted a weird, brutal PvE dungeon crawler packed with wild weapon crafting. Scrapping PvEvP in Season 4, adding 21 branching maps, and openly considering the removal of seasonal wipes turns Inferno into the game it should have been on day one. Dropping a free demo up to Body Rank 3 right now is the smartest move GungHo could make: anyone burned by the initial reception can finally test the reworked PvE loop firsthand without spending a dime.
