Keychron F4 HE 8K: A $34.99 Mini Keypad With Magnetic Switches and 8,000Hz Polling for AI and Gaming

Keychron F4 HE 8K mini macro keypad plugged into a gaming desk setup next to a keyboard and mouse

Can you pack the spec sheet of a tournament-grade esports keyboard into a four-key cube that costs less than $35? That is the exact curveball Keychron is throwing with the launch of the F4 HE 8K Vibe Coding Keypad, an ultra-compact macro pad pairing Hall Effect magnetic switches with an 8,000Hz polling rate.

Four Keys, Ultra-Fast Lime Magnetic Switches, and 8,000Hz Polling in a 1.77-Inch Cube

At first glance, the form factor looks almost like a desk toy: the Keychron F4 HE 8K measures just 44.94 x 44.94mm (1.77 inches square) and stands 34.37mm tall including its feet and keycaps, complete with a lanyard loop so you can clip it to a backpack. Yet underneath its four Cherry-profile dye-sublimated PBT keycaps and aluminum plate lies the same magnetic sensor architecture that powers the flagship boards in our Razer Huntsman V3 Pro vs. Wooting 80HE comparison.

Driven by an AT32F405 RCT7-7 microcontroller, this wired USB-C keypad features four hot-swappable Keychron Ultra-Fast Lime Magnetic Switches with north-facing RGB backlighting. Thanks to Hall Effect sensing, each switch supports adjustable actuation from 0.20mm to 3.30mm in precise 0.1mm steps. Even more impressively, the unit boasts a wired 8,000Hz polling rate (reporting inputs up to 8,000 times per second for a theoretical 0.125ms latency, provided you pair it with an 8K-rated USB-C cable).

From AI “Vibe Coding” With Claude and Codex to Rhythm Games Like osu!

On paper, Keychron is marketing the device toward the rising “Vibe Coding” trend and developers working alongside AI assistants. Shipping with ready-made presets for Claude and Codex, the F4 HE 8K maps its four keys to the repetitive review loop of AI-assisted coding: sending a prompt, triggering your computer’s voice dictation, accepting a code edit, or rejecting a bad suggestion with a single tap.

All customization happens directly inside a web browser via Keychron Launcher (supported on Chrome, Edge, and Opera, with its full official release exiting beta on November 9, 2026). The web app even includes a built-in AI assistant that builds complex macro chains from plain-language requests, saving your layout directly to the keypad’s onboard memory so it works across macOS, Windows, and Linux without background software.

Of course, rhythm players and streamers will immediately spot its gaming potential. At a time when affordable 8,000Hz Hall Effect peripherals are shaking up the market, having four magnetic switches tuned to a hair-trigger 0.2mm actuation point makes the F4 HE 8K a natural fit for high-BPM rhythm titles like osu!, instant OBS stream deck toggles, or dedicated MMO/FPS macro keys. The Keychron F4 HE 8K is available now in Black or White for $34.99 (bundled with an extra set of 11 icon keycaps) directly through the official Keychron store.

My Take on the Spec Sheet

Putting 0.2mm adjustable Hall Effect switches and an 8,000Hz polling rate inside a keypad meant for approving AI prompts feels like a hilarious piece of engineering overkill, nobody needs 0.125ms latency to accept a code snippet in Claude. Yet at $34.99 with an aluminum plate, onboard memory, and browser-based remapping, it accidentally becomes a brilliant little weapon for osu! players or anyone curious to try magnetic switches without replacing their main mechanical keyboard. We haven’t had this little F4 HE 8K on our lab bench yet to test the real-world stability of its 8,000Hz signal and the feel of its Lime switches, so if the folks at Keychron are reading this and want to send a review unit our way, we would gladly put it through its paces.
