Eight months after making its debut on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S on March 31, GRIME II is officially heading to Nintendo's hybrid platforms. Developer Clover Bite and publisher Kwalee have revealed through official Nintendo eShop listings that the surreal action-adventure metroidvania will launch simultaneously on Nintendo Switch 2 and the original Nintendo Switch on November 27, 2026 as a digital release.

A Simultaneous Late-November Rollout on Nintendo Switch 2 and Switch

While the original 2021 title kept handheld players waiting years before finally arriving on Nintendo's hardware, its sequel is closing the gap considerably. Starting November 27, owners of both console generations will be able to download GRIME II straight from the Nintendo eShop, adding a dark, heavyweight contender to the Nintendo Switch 2 release calendar right before the holiday rush.

Over on its official Steam store page, Clover Bite's sequel carries a standard price of $24.99 / €26.99 and has already racked up nearly 2,000 user reviews since its spring launch. Bringing the title natively to Nintendo's new hardware further strengthens third-party support on Nintendo Switch 2 for demanding 2D soulslike and metroidvania fans.

Playing as a Formless: Hand-Tendrils, Parries, and Enemy Molds

In GRIME II, you step into the role of a Formless, an art mimic and stealer of forms venturing into a brand-new, mysterious land within the GRIME universe. This surreal realm is obsessed with sculptural art, featuring lived-in civilizations built out of giant vases and painted nails, complete with strange cultures and deep characters to converse with between battles.

To survive its towering bosses and lethal corridors, Clover Bite has expanded the combat sandbox around four core mechanics:

  • Enemy Molds: Absorbing defeated foes lets you shape them into molds that fuel special attacks. You can deploy these molds to hurl enemies across the screen, fire projectiles, stun targets, or summon autonomous forms that fight alongside you and unlock hidden paths across the map.
  • Parry and Grasp: Your protagonist shoots out hand-tendrils to either parry incoming strikes with tight timing or grasp weakened creatures to absorb them, bringing you closer to mastering their physical shape.
  • Two-Way Environmental Combat: Every biome offers environmental hazards and interactive structures to crush enemies up close or from afar. However, foes and bosses can weaponize those exact same surroundings against you if you lose track of your positioning.
  • Deep Build Customization: Players can tailor their combat approach using more than 30 living weapons, 60 armor pieces, and 12 distinct abilities.

My Perspective

Anyone who braved the original GRIME on the first-generation Nintendo Switch knows the heartbreak of missing a frame-perfect parry because the framerate decided to stutter mid-boss fight. With hand-tendrils flying across the screen, multiple mold summons active at once, and even denser organic backdrops, GRIME II demands rock-solid responsiveness. Seeing Clover Bite and Kwalee deliver a dedicated Nintendo Switch 2 version on November 27 is the best possible news for anyone who wants to tackle its grotesque bosses in handheld mode without fighting the hardware at the same time.
