4K Output, Gunvolt GX Tag-Team Mode, and $10 Upgrade: Azure Striker Gunvolt Trilogy Enhanced Launches on Nintendo Switch 2

Azure Striker Gunvolt Trilogy Enhanced Nintendo Switch 2 Edition

Japanese developer and publisher Inti Creates officially launches Azure Striker Gunvolt Trilogy Enhanced - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition today, Thursday, October 22, 2026, on Nintendo's newest hybrid console. Following the collection's original debut on the first-generation Switch in July 2025, this native upgrade delivers major visual improvements alongside a brand-new standalone story mode titled Azure Striker Gunvolt GX.

October 22 is shaping up to be a standout day for arcade and action enthusiasts on the platform, arriving right alongside the October 22 release of Ace Driver: Victory Lap and The Raiden Project on Nintendo Switch 2. While the base compilation already united all three mainline installments with refined gameplay balance, the Switch 2 version takes full advantage of the new hardware.

4K Resolution Output, Higher Frame Rates, and All Three Games With Every DLC

Created to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the high-speed 2D action-platformer franchise, the official Inti Creates website confirms that Azure Striker Gunvolt Trilogy Enhanced bundles Azure Striker Gunvolt (2014), Azure Striker Gunvolt 2 (2016), and Azure Striker Gunvolt 3 (2022) together with every piece of downloadable content ever released. Extra bosses, bonus weapons, additional modes, and vocal tracks are all included out of the box.

On Nintendo Switch 2, the compilation supports up to 4K resolution in TV mode paired with higher frame rates for razor-sharp aerial responsiveness. Players also get the Director's Cut enhancements introduced for the trilogy package, including real-time mid-stage voiced dialogue (Live Novel), newly recorded voice acting, and an expansive Library Mode featuring all 37 virtual diva vocal songs and previously Japan-exclusive Drama CD audio tracks.

Azure Striker Gunvolt GX: New Tag-Team Story Mode Featuring Copen

The centerpiece of today's October 22 launch is the inclusion of the new Azure Striker Gunvolt GX mode. As detailed on Inti Creates' official Steam store page, this fully voiced English and Japanese campaign explores an original timeline centered around the mystery of Gunvolt's former comrade, Xiao Wu, in a desperate bid to prevent a future of destruction sparked by the Primal Dragon.

In terms of combat mechanics, Gunvolt GX pairs series protagonist Gunvolt (GV) with Copen (returning in his form from the spin-off Gunvolt Chronicles: Luminous Avenger iX 2) in an explosive tag-team structure:

  • Inspiration System and GX Skills: while one hero fights on screen, the partner on standby steadily builds up Inspiration. Tagging out when the Inspiration gauge is full grants a temporary power boost and charges the GX Skill meter to unleash a devastating dual special attack.
  • Shared Boss Rewards: defeating each boss rewards both characters simultaneously, granting Copen a brand-new EX Weapon crafted specifically for Gunvolt GX while awakening a new active Skill for Gunvolt.
  • Dual Muse Duets: surpassing 1,000 Kudos triggers a battle anthem from either Gunvolt's Muse (Lumen) or Copen's Muse of Hope (Lola). When both virtual divas sing together in a duet, their song dynamically transforms as your Kudos score climbs higher.
  • RPG Leveling and Endgame Missions: earning EXP raises character levels to expand maximum health and ability slots, while credits can be spent on custom upgrades before tackling high-difficulty special missions unlocked after clearing the main story.

Nintendo Switch 2 Pricing and $10 eShop Upgrade Pack

For newcomers picking up the collection for the first time, Azure Striker Gunvolt Trilogy Enhanced - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition is available today for $49.99, bundling the base trilogy alongside the Azure Striker Gunvolt GX expansion. Much like the action-roguelike CRYMELIGHT on Nintendo Switch 2, this release bolsters an increasingly strong lineup of fast-paced 2D action titles on the platform this fall.

Players who already own the original Nintendo Switch version of Azure Striker Gunvolt Trilogy Enhanced can jump straight into the new content via the Upgrade Pack available on the Nintendo eShop for $10 ($9.99). The upgrade unlocks both the 4K and frame rate enhancements for Switch 2 hardware as well as the complete Gunvolt GX story mode.

My Perspective: A Worthy Celebration of a Decade of High-Voltage 2D Action

Having followed this series since its Nintendo 3DS debut back in 2014, I was curious to see whether this Nintendo Switch 2 Edition would settle for a simple resolution bump or offer a genuine reason to revisit Inti Creates' flagship universe. Including Azure Striker Gunvolt GX transforms the package entirely, as weaving between Gunvolt's ranged electrical tagging and Copen's hyper-aggressive aerial dashes creates an exhilarating combat rhythm.

What stands out to me most is the duet mechanic between Lumen and Lola, turning high-stakes Kudos chains into an evolving musical crescendo that keeps your adrenaline pumping through every stage. With a $10 upgrade path that combines crisp 4K visuals, smoother frame rates, and a fully voiced crossover campaign, Inti Creates has delivered a textbook generational update.
