Saros Zenith Update Drops Free on PS5 With Eclipse Layers New Game+, Overlord Rush, and Slow Game Speed

Just days after celebrating a landmark artistic achievement with its triple victory at the 2026 Music + Sound Awards, Housemarque has shadowdropped a massive expansion for its acclaim-winning PS5 action roguelike. Released on October 19, 2026, as a free 3.5 GB patch (version 2.000.000), the Saros Zenith update reshapes life and death across the haunting alien depths of Carcosa.

Detailing the release on the official PlayStation Blog, Saros: Zenith Design Lead Abebe Tinari explained the studio's dual ambition: making the game's demanding bullet-ballet combat more approachable for newcomers while delivering a punishing endgame loop for veterans who have already conquered the campaign.

Slowing Down Time Without Compromising the Bullet Ballet

At the heart of Housemarque's design philosophy lies the thrill of reading complex, screen-filling projectile patterns and threading the needle under pressure. Rather than thinning out enemy attacks to lower the barrier to entry, the team introduced a customizable Slow Game Speed setting that preserves every single projectile on screen.

Players can dial in how much the action slows down and choose whether the effect triggers automatically during combat encounters or via a manual button toggle when a room gets overwhelming. The extra breathing room gives newcomers crucial split-seconds to read enemy telegraphs and decide whether to jump, dash, raise their shield, or parry.

Complementing this is the new Auto-fire option, which automatically discharges your weapon whenever the reticle locks onto a hostile target, relieving finger fatigue so you can focus entirely on movement and evasion. Crucially, timing an active perfect reload still requires a manual button press, ensuring skill expression remains front and center alongside new DualSense motion sensor aiming and high-contrast visual toggles.

Eclipse Layers New Game+, 20 New Modifiers, and the Golden Crown

For veterans who have already cleared the story, new nodes now appear in the Armor Matrix back at Passage, unlocking the Eclipse Layers New Game+ mode. Before stepping into each altered layer, players must assemble a loadout of Carcosan Modifiers that meets a mandatory difficulty threshold drawn from 25 total Trials whose synergies can quickly turn lethal.

Zenith expands the Carcosan Modifier pool with 20 new additions split evenly between 10 Protection Modifiers and 10 Trial Modifiers. On the forgiving side, Corruption Melee Enhancement turns one of the game's most feared mechanics into an offensive weapon: built-up Armor Corruption, which normally eats away at Arjun Devraj's maximum Integrity, is instead consumed upon landing a melee strike to unleash devastating bonus damage.

Conversely, the new Hostile Regeneration Trial forces aggressive close-quarters play, causing stunned heavy enemies to rapidly heal unless finished off with a melee blow. As you stack tougher Trials and push your Modifier Balance higher in Eclipse Layers, Arjun's armor radiates a golden glow and manifests an evolving Crown, which is required to decipher hidden lore texts across 12 stone-etched Visions left behind by an ancient king.

Overlord Rush: An Eight-Boss Gauntlet With Global Weapon Leaderboards

Rounding out the update is Overlord Rush, a dedicated boss-rush training simulation accessed via the Primary Unit in Passage. Built for high-score chasers and speedrunners, the mode pits players against Carcosa's towering Overlords in rapid succession.

The mode is structured around three distinct sets: Incursion and Ascension each feature three Overlords designed for brisk 10-minute runs, while the ultimate test, Totality, chains all eight Overlords into one continuous gauntlet. Integrated online leaderboards allow competitors to filter global and friend rankings by Main Weapon, accompanied by a fresh set of PS5 trophies.

My Take: Preserving the Choreography of Chaos Without Diluting Its Edge

Watching Housemarque refine its craft over the years, what stands out most in Zenith is the studio's refusal to compromise the visual geometry of its combat. Giving players fine-grained control over game speed rather than stripping projectiles from the screen respects the artistry of the encounter design, while tying the golden Crown's visual prestige directly to lore discovery in Eclipse Layers gives endgame mastery a genuinely rewarding purpose.
