ARC Raiders Frozen Trail Update Revealed: New Map, 3 ARC Enemies, Weapon Upgrades and Outposts

ARC Raiders Frozen Trail

Embark Studios is shifting into high gear. After announcing in May that it would space out major content drops to deliver richer expansions, the Swedish developer has pulled back the curtain on Frozen Trail. Slated for a free release on October 8, 2026, this comprehensive 2.0 update fundamentally reshapes the extraction shooter loop.

Monthly incremental patches are officially a thing of the past. Embark is pivoting to a biannual update cycle, and its maiden 2.0 release brings an unprecedented stack of new features, including a punishing alpine map, three dangerous ARC robotic threats, surface personal outposts, and an overhaul of character progression.

Pendola Pass: Extreme Verticality and Flash Freeze Weather

The centerpiece of the update is located far north of the Rust Belt on the newly revealed Pendola Pass map. Described by Embark as its most ambitious environment to date, the mountainous battlefield is framed by the colossal rusted carcass of a downed Emperor, giving the snowbound landscape a haunting, hostile atmosphere.

The rugged terrain emphasizes extreme vertical firefights across abandoned rail yards, cliffside transit hubs, and a fortified observatory. Environmental survival plays an equally lethal role through the new Flash Freeze weather condition. Squads caught in open blizzards without shelter face severe thermal penalties, forcing players to coordinate movement carefully between indoor waypoints to avoid freezing before reaching an extraction elevator.

Three New ARC Threats and The Frigate Airborne Raid

The robotic ARC roster expands with three specialized combat units designed to disrupt predictable exterior engagements:

  • The Bully: A fast, four-legged aggressor related to the Leaper. Built around relentless hit-and-run tactics, it circles squad flanks while laying down sustained fire, denying players breathing room to heal or reload.
  • The Skulker: A low-profile, stealth reconnaissance unit. It conceals itself in snowbanks and debris, taking pot shots from long distance before retreating into the mist.
  • The Hydra: A fortified heavy artillery turret fitted with three independent weapon batteries. Capable of engaging three targets simultaneously, it requires tactical squad flanking to exploit its blind spots.

For high-tier crews seeking endgame loot, Embark is introducing The Frigate. This massive airborne carrier patrols high above Pendola Pass and cannot be permanently destroyed. Boarding teams must infiltrate its hangars under heavy suppression, grab high-value blueprints, and escape before the vessel drifts away.

Raider Dens: Surface Outposts and Weapon Amplification

Beyond the subterranean shelters of Speranza, Frozen Trail allows players to claim their own Raider Den in surface territory. These personal outposts serve as customizable headquarters where players can display collectible furniture, set up research stations, and prepare expeditions. Executive producer Aleksander Grøndal noted that outposts will continue to receive expansions in upcoming updates.

The raid arsenal also expands with two new weapons: the Stiletto, a lightweight battle rifle engineered as an agile early-game alternative to the Renegade, and the Bantam, a heavy quickfire revolver built to challenge the Anvil. Players can bring their weapons to the new research station to unlock a fifth rarity tier called Weapon Amplification. Fifteen weapons will feature amplifications at launch, granting special attributes like incendiary ammunition and enhanced fire rates.

Grappling Hook, Reworked Skill Tree, and Reward Pass

Traversal receives a major tactical upgrade with the addition of the Grappling Hook. This high-mobility gadget lets raiders swing across mountain chasms, scale Pendola's sheer cliffs, and even tether directly onto wandering ARC bots for high-risk traversal maneuvers.

Embark has also revamped the entire Raider skill progression. The previous all-access skill tree has been replaced with specialized pathways, requiring players to commit to defined combat builds rather than mastering every perk on a single character. Progression is tied to a new Reward Pass featuring Free and Premium tracks filled with cosmetic outfits and Raider Tokens.

Much like the meteoric surge of WARDOGS hitting 2 million sales, the modern tactical extraction market demands aggressive innovation. The October 8 release date lands right alongside major fall competition including Hellraiser Revival's brutal launch.

With Frozen Trail, Embark Studios proves that spacing out major updates can deliver real depth. By combining a brutal mountain map with challenging PvE threats and meaningful progression trade-offs, ARC Raiders looks poised to make a massive impact on the extraction shooter genre this October.
