Zelda: Ocarina of Time (Switch 2) Storage Upgrades Guide: All Bomb Bags, Quivers, Seed Bags, and Wallets

Young Link holding his 30th Gold Skulltula token to unlock the Giant's Wallet in The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time on Switch 2

Running out of ammunition mid-boss fight or watching valuable Blue and Red Rupees go to waste because your starter wallet caps out at 99 coins is one of the most common early-game headaches in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time on Nintendo Switch 2. Fortunately, Hyrule is packed with minigames, Business Scrubs, and side-quest rewards that double or quintuple your capacity for Deku Sticks, Deku Nuts, Deku Seed Bullet Bags, Bomb Bags, Arrow Quivers, and Rupee Wallets.

Here is the complete step-by-step guide to unlocking all 12 item storage upgrades on Nintendo Switch 2, which can be earned in either order within each category.

1. Deku Stick (10 → 20 → 30) and Deku Nut (20 → 30 → 40) Upgrades

Exclusive to Young Link, all four Deku Stick and Deku Nut upgrades are tucked away inside the forest. You can use our Lost Woods map and Sacred Forest Meadow path guide to navigate straight to each clearing without getting warped back to Kokiri Forest:

  • Deku Stick Upgrade #1 (20 or 30) from the Bridge Business Scrub: from the Lost Woods entrance, follow the path Right → Left → Right → Left to reach the southwestern clearing beneath the bridge. Deflect the Business Scrub's nut with your Deku Shield and purchase the upgrade for 40 Rupees.
  • Deku Stick Upgrade #2 (30) at the Secret Forest Stage: from the Lost Woods entrance, go Right → Left → Right → Left and walk into the patch of tall grass where two butterflies hover near the boulder to drop into the hidden Forest Stage grotto. Put on the Skull Mask from our Happy Mask Shop side-quest and Mask of Truth guide and approach the Deku Scrub crowd to receive the upgrade for free.
  • Deku Nut Upgrade #1 (30) at the Secret Forest Stage: return to the exact same Forest Stage grotto while wearing the Mask of Truth (make sure to do this before pulling the Master Sword for the first time) so the Deku Scrub leader upgrades your capacity to 30 Deku Nuts.
  • Deku Nut Upgrade #2 (40) near the Sacred Forest Meadow: right in front of the ladder at the end of the Sacred Forest Meadow maze, blow up the round boulder with a Bomb (or smash it with the Megaton Hammer) to uncover a hidden grotto. Defeat the Business Scrub on the right and pay 40 Rupees for the final upgrade.

2. Deku Seed Bullet Bags for the Fairy Slingshot (30 → 40 → 50)

As soon as you obtain the Fairy Slingshot inside the Great Deku Tree, you can boost your seed capacity from 30 all the way to 50 Deku Seeds in under ten minutes:

  1. Bigger Bullet Bag (40 Seeds) in the Lost Woods: turn right from the Lost Woods entrance and look up at the high tree branch. Shoot dead center on the hanging bullseye target to score 100 points three times in a row, and the Deku Scrub will toss down the upgrade.
  2. Biggest Bullet Bag (50 Seeds) at the Market Shooting Gallery: visit Hyrule Castle Town Market during the day and pay 20 Rupees at the Shooting Gallery. Hit all 10 out of 10 flying Rupee targets in a single round to claim the maximum seed bag.

3. Bomb Bags (20 → 30 → 40)

Once you collect the base 20-capacity Bomb Bag inside Dodongo's Cavern, two challenges let you double your explosive storage right away:

  1. Big Bomb Bag (30 Bombs) in Goron City: head to the second floor of Goron City where the giant Goron rolls along the corridor. Place a Bomb slightly ahead of the red-carpeted tunnel entrance so the blast stops him inside the red tunnel zone, then speak with him to receive the 30-Bomb upgrade.
  2. Biggest Bomb Bag (40 Bombs) at the Bombchu Bowling Alley: enter the Bombchu Bowling Alley in Castle Town Market and pay 30 Rupees. Because the prize rotates randomly each game (between a Piece of Heart, Bombs, Bombchus, a Purple Rupee, and the Bomb Bag), exit and re-enter until the operator offers the Bomb Bag, then hit all three targets with your Bombchus.

Upgrading your Bomb Bag to 40 and your Quiver to 50 ensures you never run dry during late-game temple boss fights.

4. Arrow Quivers (30 → 40 → 50)

After claiming the Fairy Bow as Adult Link inside the Forest Temple, two marksmanship trials upgrade your quiver up to 50 arrows:

  1. Big Quiver (40 Arrows) at the Kakariko Shooting Gallery: step inside the completed Shooting Gallery building in Kakariko Village during the day, pay 20 Rupees, and shoot all 10 out of 10 Rupee targets.
  2. Biggest Quiver (50 Arrows) at the Gerudo Fortress Horseback Archery Range: once you have freed Epona from Lon Lon Ranch, ride up to the Horseback Archery Range behind Gerudo Fortress. Pay 20 Rupees and score at least 1,500 points by hitting bullseyes and clay pots from horseback.

5. Rupee Wallets (99 → 200 → 500)

Your starting wallet holds just 99 Rupees. To afford tunics and minigames without wasting chest rewards, hunt down nocturnal and dungeon Gold Skulltulas and bring their tokens to the House of Skulltula at the entrance to Kakariko Village:

  • Adult's Wallet (200 Rupees): speak to the first cursed brother freed after collecting 10 Gold Skulltula tokens.
  • Giant's Wallet (500 Rupees): speak to the third brother freed after collecting 30 Gold Skulltula tokens.

My Perspective

On Nintendo Switch 2, gyro aiming completely transforms the Castle Town and Kakariko Shooting Galleries as well as Gerudo Horseback Archery: where the 1998 N64 analog stick required saintly patience to land 1,500 points for the 50-arrow Biggest Quiver, subtle wrist adjustments now make bullseyes effortless. My biggest early-game recommendation is still hunting down your first 10 Gold Skulltulas right after clearing the Great Deku Tree so you unlock the 200-Rupee Adult's Wallet before ever stepping into Hyrule Castle Town.
