Baldur's Gate 3 Unnerfed Origins Mod Lands on PS5 and Xbox: 10 Lore-Friendly Companion Passives Join 14 New Console Mods

Baldur's Gate 3 Origin characters featured in the Unnerfed Origins mod on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC

Even after wrapping up its major studio patch cycle, Baldur's Gate 3 keeps expanding on consoles through curated community creations approved by Larian Studios. A fresh batch of 14 free mods has just been added to the official in-game Mod Manager on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Headlining the drop is the long-awaited console port of Unnerfed Origins on the official mod.io platform (also available for PC players via its dedicated Nexus Mods page), a project by creator koboldJuno that grants unique, lore-accurate passive abilities to all six Origin characters and four additional recruitable companions.

How Unnerfed Origins Overhauls All Six Origin Characters and Four Companions

In vanilla Baldur's Gate 3, starting a campaign as an Origin character or bringing them into your party unlocks exclusive narrative scenes, yet leaves them mechanically identical to a custom protagonist (Tav). Before being abducted aboard the Mind Flayer Nautiloid and weakened by their tadpoles, however, Gale was an Archmage of Waterdeep, Karlach fought on the front lines of Avernus, and Wyll hunted beasts across the Sword Coast.

Built through Osiris scripting in version 1.0.0.2 to preserve broad compatibility with other mods and existing saves, koboldJuno's creation translates those backstories into tangible combat passives across ten iconic party members:

  • Gale (Archmage of Waterdeep): Gains a toggleable passive allowing him to cast Illusion and Enchantment spells using either an Action or a Bonus Action.
  • Shadowheart (Resilient Soul): Adds a bonus to her Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma saving throws equal to her Proficiency Bonus minus 1 (+1 at levels 1 to 4, +2 at levels 5 to 8, and +3 at levels 9 to 12).
  • Astarion (Revenant Scourge): Receives permanent Advantage on saving throws against spells and actions used by Undead enemies.
  • Karlach (Blood War Survivor): Gains specialized combat bonuses when fighting Fiends, reflecting her years surviving the Blood War.
  • Lae'zel (Interplanar Slayer): Unlocks dedicated offensive bonuses against Aberrations, turning her into an ideal counter against Mind Flayers.
  • Wyll (Monster Hunter): The Blade of Frontiers receives targeted combat advantages against Monstrosities.
  • Halsin (Savage Striker): Gains an unarmed variant of the Savage Attacker feat that carries over into his Wild Shape animal forms as long as the form attacks without weapons.
  • Jaheira (Aged Old Harper): Becomes proficient with all weapons and gains +2 Armor Class (AC) whenever she is maintaining Concentration on a spell.
  • Minsc (Rashemaar Berserker): His attacks completely ignore physical damage resistances.
  • Minthara (Psionic Retaliation): Whenever she succeeds on a saving throw, the source that triggered the effect is slowed for two turns.

Fiend Hunter and Soul Reaper Classes: Inside the 14 New Console Mods and Save Warnings

Alongside this companion overhaul, which complements recent PC modding milestones such as the Baldur's Gate 3 Forsaken mod campaign rebuilding World of Warcraft's Tirisfal Glades, Larian's latest 14-mod console batch introduces two major class expansions. First, the standalone Fiend Hunter class brings a demon-hunting archetype featuring three subclasses, upgradeable demonic weapons and armor across all three acts, and dual combat resources (Hatred and Discipline). Second, the Soul Reaper Warlock subclass makes Death itself your otherworldly patron, letting you harvest soul remnants from fallen foes to fuel high-burst shadow magic.

Other additions now downloadable straight from the main menu's Mod Manager include the party-wide Mass Rez Scroll, Early Minsc for recruiting the beloved ranger as early as Act 1, and dedicated Dark Urge tweaks, arriving right as Nexus Mods rolls out mandatory disclosures and a dedicated filter for AI-generated mods. Console players on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S should keep two practical notes in mind: if a rare loading bug applies a companion passive twice, reloading the save outside the Nautiloid resolves the issue, and enabling any mod disables PlayStation Trophies and Xbox Achievements on that specific save file.

My Perspective

This mod fixes a narrative-to-gameplay disconnect that every RPG fan noticed during their first hour in Baldur's Gate 3. Hearing Gale recount his past as an Archmage of Waterdeep who walked alongside Mystra, only to watch him start at level 1 with the exact same baseline toolkit as a generic custom wizard, always felt slightly off. The same goes for legendary veterans of the previous games like Jaheira and Minsc.

What makes koboldJuno's work on Unnerfed Origins stand out is how restrained and tactical these ten passives are. Weaving an Illusion spell into a Bonus Action with Gale or keeping Savage Attacker active inside Halsin's Owlbear form gives each companion a distinct mechanical identity without trivializing Tactician or Honour Mode. For PS5 and Xbox players looking for a fresh excuse to sink another hundred hours into Faerûn as an Origin lead, this console drop is hard to beat.
