Pikmin 4 Version 2.0.0 Update Out Now: Official Patch Notes, eShop Upgrade Menu, and Dandori Academy Prep

Exactly one week before its enhanced edition lands on Kyoto's newest hardware, Pikmin 4 is laying the technical groundwork. Nintendo has officially deployed Version 2.0.0 today, Thursday, November 5, 2026, as a free download across both the original Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2.
While the primary goal of this major patch is to implement backend compatibility for Pikmin 4 - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Dandori Academy ahead of its November 12 launch, it also updates the title screen menu on Switch 2 systems today and delivers general stability improvements.
Pikmin 4 Version 2.0.0 Official Patch Notes
Published on the official Nintendo Support page, the Version 2.0.0 release notes break down the additions specific to Nintendo Switch 2 alongside universal fixes for both platforms. Here are the exact changes included in the November 5, 2026 update:
- Nintendo Switch 2 Edition Support (Switch 2): Added software compatibility for Pikmin 4 - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Dandori Academy. Players who pre-order or purchase the edition or the digital Upgrade Pack ($9.99 / £7.99 on the Nintendo eShop) will be able to play the new content starting Thursday, November 12, 2026.
- New Title Screen Menu Option (Switch 2): When launching Pikmin 4 on a Nintendo Switch 2 console, an "About the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" option now appears on the title screen menu. Selecting it takes players directly to the Upgrade Pack page on the Nintendo eShop.
- General Bug Fixes and Adjustments (Switch & Switch 2): Addressed several unspecified gameplay issues and implemented adjustments to ensure a smoother overall experience. Existing save data remains fully compatible after downloading the update.
- Internet Connection Requirement for Dandori Academy (Switch 2): Nintendo notes in the patch documentation that an active internet connection is required in the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition to take Dandori certification exams and download newly distributed stages.
- Demo Updated to Version 2.0.0: The original Pikmin 4 demo has also received a matching Version 2.0.0 update, alongside the separate Pikmin 4 - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Dandori Academy free demo currently live on the eShop.

72 Dandori Academy Stages, Oatchi Voice Commands, and GameShare
First detailed during Shigeru Miyamoto's surprise Pikmin Day Direct, the Switch 2 upgrade goes well beyond sharper high-resolution visuals in TV and handheld modes. The centerpiece of the expansion is Dandori Academy, a dedicated competitive training facility that will roll out a total of 72 timed exam stages over time across multiple difficulty tiers.
Every weekend from Friday through Sunday, online players can also enter official Dandori exams where only the very first attempt counts toward earning exclusive explorer outfits. On the control front, the built-in microphone on the Nintendo Switch 2 lets players issue real-time voice commands to rescue pup Oatchi, calling him over, ordering a charge attack, or praising him without pausing the action.

Meanwhile, Dandori Battles gain full support for local wireless GameShare and online GameChat, allowing two friends to compete even if only one person owns a copy of Pikmin 4. It stands out as one of the most welcoming multiplayer additions in the November 2026 Nintendo Switch 2 and Switch release lineup.
My Perspective
Downloading a big Version 2.0.0 update that puts an "About the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" button right on the title screen while making us wait seven more days to actually play the new stages feels a bit like leaving a locked box of chocolates on the coffee table. I already spent dozens of hours clearing every cave back in 2023 and jumped right back in for Fierce mode and the Decor Pikmin in patch 1.1.0, so I am thrilled to see Nintendo giving this entry real long-term legs with 72 extra Dandori challenges.
At ten dollars for the upgrade pack if you already own the original Switch cartridge, it is a much fairer deal than a full-price re-release. Between sharing Dandori Battles via GameShare with a friend who does not even own the game and the slightly ridiculous joy of barking orders at Oatchi through the Switch 2 microphone from the couch, my save file is ready for November 12.
