Until Dawn 2 Heads to Theaters on December 11: Exclusive PS5 Gameplay, Horror Marathon, and Live Alamo Drafthouse Stream

Ahead of its exclusive PlayStation 5 launch on January 28, 2027, Until Dawn 2 is getting a theatrical preview worthy of a classic midnight slasher. PlayStation Studios and British developer Firesprite have officially announced a special live event taking place on December 11, 2026 at Alamo Drafthouse cinemas, accompanied by a worldwide livestream for fans watching from home.
December 11 Alamo Drafthouse Event: Exclusive PS5 Gameplay, Horror Movie Marathon, and Live Cast Appearances
Acquired by Sony Pictures Entertainment in 2024, the American cinema chain Alamo Drafthouse will host the winter showcase for Until Dawn 2. On Friday, December 11, 2026, theater attendees will be treated to an exclusive PS5 gameplay showcase paired with a curated horror movie marathon on the big screen. PlayStation also confirmed that the event will feature special live appearances from members of the game's cast and creative talent.
For players who cannot make it to an Alamo Drafthouse theater in person, PlayStation confirmed that the entire gameplay showcase will be broadcast live online via an official livestream. The December showcase arrives just seven weeks before the sequel's January 28, 2027 launch on PS5, where it is currently available for pre-order at a mid-tier price point of $49.99 / £44.99 / €49.99 for the Standard Edition alongside a Digital Deluxe Edition.
From Blackwood Sanatorium to Akishima Island: The Trap Closes on the "Dead True" Crew
Developed by Firesprite (Horizon Call of the Mountain, The Persistence) and co-written with narrative specialists AdHoc Studio (Dispatch), Until Dawn 2 delivers a standalone story with a brand-new ensemble while bridging directly into the legacy of the 2015 original. The plot follows "Dead True", a popular team of YouTube ghost hunters whose viral paranormal investigations have always been completely staged for views.
Their luck runs out when the crew breaks into the frozen ruins of Blackwood Sanatorium to film an episode revisiting the tragedy that unfolded twelve years earlier. While inside, the team's new intern Izzy (played by Sarah Catherine Hook) uncovers a chilling clue that derails their plans. Shortly after, at HorrorCon in Sydney, they meet Yoona (Gia Kim), a supernatural attack survivor bearing a dark, necrotic scar on her neck. Backed by a major television network deal for their first fully funded episode, the crew (along with their pet rooster mascot) travels to Akishima Island, a remote South Pacific resort abandoned in the 1970s where centuries-old horrors await. It is a premise tailor-made to join the ranks of the best horror games to stream on Twitch and YouTube when it lands this winter.

Dr. Hill's Return (Peter Stormare), Star-Studded Cast, and Butterfly Effect Dilemmas
While the Dead True crew introduces fresh faces, one iconic figure anchors the psychological terror of the series: Peter Stormare reprises his unsettling role as psychiatrist Dr. Alan Hill. Around him, Firesprite has assembled a high-profile motion-capture cast led by Dacre Montgomery (Stranger Things) as Owen, the crew's cocky lead host, alongside Camila Senna (Mina), Spence Moore II (Nate), Neil Newbon (Baldur's Gate 3, playing Sebastian), Tanner Buchanan (Cameron), Gavin Leatherwood (Luke), Janina Gavankar (Anna), Andie Ju (Reagan, the camera operator), and Hannah Kepple (Josie).
Building on the choice-driven DNA that helped define two decades of standout PlayStation Store releases, the sequel expands the Butterfly Effect system by tying survival branches directly to how players manage messy interpersonal relationships within the crew. Game Director Stu Tilley has already highlighted several brutal dilemmas: Owen must decide whether to follow a distress signal to rescue his missing friend Nate or cross a rickety bridge toward a mysteriously lit bar for vital clues, while co-host Mina is pressured by network executives to perform a live ritual sacrifice on camera, forcing players to choose between sacrificing the crew's rooster or slashing her own palm.
My Perspective
Premiering the first extended gameplay look at Until Dawn 2 inside Alamo Drafthouse theaters during a live horror movie marathon is a pitch-perfect match for the franchise. At its core, Until Dawn has always felt like a rowdy midnight movie screening where everyone yells at the screen when a character makes a terrible decision, so bringing the PS5 sequel to actual cinema seats on December 11 sets the exact right mood ahead of January 28.
What excites me even more is the creative pairing of Firesprite with the writers at AdHoc Studio. Sending a crew of clout-chasing fake ghost hunters from the ruins of Blackwood Sanatorium to the cursed shores of Akishima Island, complete with Peter Stormare back in the chair as Dr. Hill and Neil Newbon in the cast, has all the ingredients to turn our winter nights on PS5 into a wonderfully ruthless survival test.
