The Thaumaturge Launches on Nintendo Switch on November 12: $34.99 Price, 9.5 GB File Size, and Unreal Engine 5 Port Details

Wiktor Szulski and his Salutor Upyr in The Thaumaturge on Nintendo Switch

Nearly two years after its console debut on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, The Thaumaturge is officially making the leap to portable hardware. According to the official Nintendo eShop product listing (title ID 70010000125948), the story-driven isometric RPG developed by Polish studio Fool's Theory and published by 11 bit studios will launch on Nintendo Switch on November 12, 2026, and will also be playable on Nintendo Switch 2 via backward compatibility.

November 12 Release Date, $34.99 Price, and 9.52 GB Download Size on the Nintendo eShop

Originally released on PC in March 2024 before arriving on current-generation home consoles in December 2024, the dark historical RPG from Fool's Theory (the team of former CD Projekt RED veterans also developing the full Unreal Engine 5 remake of the original The Witcher) joins an already busy November 2026 Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 release schedule. The Nintendo eShop listing confirms a standard price of $34.99 (€34.99 in Europe), matching the MSRP of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S editions.

On the technical front, the development team has compressed the game's assets considerably to fit Nintendo's hybrid system: the Nintendo Switch digital download weighs in at 9.52 GB (9.521 GB), down from roughly 25 GB on PC and current-gen consoles. Full English voice acting is included alongside localized interface and subtitle support in English, French, Polish, Spanish, German, Russian, and Simplified Chinese.

1905 Warsaw, Esoteric Salutors, and Turn-Based Tactical Combat

Set in 1905 Warsaw under the iron grip of the Russian Tsardom, The Thaumaturge puts players in the boots of Wiktor Szulski, a troubled miracle worker drawn back to his fractured hometown following the mysterious death of his father, Stanisław. Between the muddy streets of Powiśle and the opulent parlors of Śródmieście, Wiktor's investigation tangles with imperial secret police, competing social factions, and historical figures including Grigori Rasputin.

At the heart of the experience is the occult art of thaumaturgy, which bridges detective work and turn-based combat. Using his heightened Perception, Wiktor can inspect personal belongings to read the emotional echoes left behind by their owners. More importantly, he can sense hidden human Flaws (such as Pride, Recklessness, Ambition, or Scheming) that attract otherworldly beings drawn from Slavic and Middle Eastern folklore known as Salutors, including Upyr, Bukavac, Lelek, and Veles.

  • Investigation and Moral Choices: Upgrade four distinct thaumaturgy dimensions (Heart, Mind, Deed, and Word) to unlock occult dialogue checks, bend NPCs to your will, or embrace your own Flaws across a branching 17-to-25-hour campaign.
  • Timeline-Based Turn-Based Battles: Every encounter plays out like a tactical puzzle where you can read incoming enemy actions on a timeline, delay hostile strikes, shatter an opponent's Focus gauge, and customize your attacks with four passive upgrade types.
  • An Ambitious Unreal Engine 5 Port: Built from the ground up on Unreal Engine 5 with dense city crowds and atmospheric lighting, squeezing the game onto the original Switch's mobile chipset represents a major optimization test.

My Perspective

I have to admit, curling up in bed in handheld mode with a moody, slow-burn detective RPG like The Thaumaturge sounds like an absolute treat. Its deliberate investigation pace in 1905 Warsaw and timeline-driven turn-based battles are tailor-made for late-night portable sessions where you can take your time chaining attacks between Wiktor and his Salutors, making it a deeply intriguing narrative addition alongside the best games available on Nintendo Switch and Switch 2.

At the same time, it pays to stay realistic about the hardware constraints. Porting a demanding Unreal Engine 5 RPG onto the aging Tegra X1 processor inside the original 2017 Switch takes some real-life thaumaturgy of its own. While trimming the install size down to 9.52 GB shows that Fool's Theory has carefully reworked texture budgets and geometry, I will be keeping a close eye on UI text legibility on the portable screen and frame rate stability in Warsaw's busier districts. Personally, playing through backward compatibility on Nintendo Switch 2 on November 12 feels like the ideal way to enjoy Wiktor Szulski's occult investigation on the go without sweating the performance bottlenecks.
