Resonance of Fate Gets a Surprise "Remaster of a Remaster" on PS5 and PC With 120 FPS and 2x Speed Mode

Resonance of Fate PS5

Eight years after brushing the dust off its cult classic JRPG with the 4K/HD Edition, Japanese developer tri-Ace has pulled off one of the most unexpected shadow-drops of the fall. Available right now on PlayStation 5 and PC, Resonance of Fate Enhanced Remaster is quite literally a remaster of a remaster designed to modernize the acrobatic gunfights of Zephyr, Vashyron, and Leanne.

Originally released in 2010 on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 by SEGA (and known in Japan as End of Eternity), this self-proclaimed "gunplay symphony RPG" is now self-published by its original creators on the PlayStation Store and via the official Steam store page.

Native 4K, HDR, 120 FPS, and a 2x Game Speed Mode

While the 2018 re-release focused on a straightforward high-definition resolution bump, this 2026 edition significantly expands its display capabilities for modern monitors and living room TVs. The game now supports native 4K output, HDR lighting, and silky-smooth frame rates up to 120 FPS.

Character models, industrial towns, and environmental assets across the towering mechanical spire of Basel have received newly upscaled textures. Turning on the new decimation filter in the settings menu further refines fine geometry details, noticeably sharpening the characters' hair and outfits compared to the previous 4K/HD port.

The acrobatic Hero Action gunfights look sharper than ever with upscaled textures and 120 FPS support.

The biggest quality-of-life addition for returning veterans is the brand-new 2x Game Speed feature. Players can now double the pace of field exploration, world map traversal, story events, and tactical turn-based skirmishes at the press of a button.

Speeding up the airborne gun-fu choreography of the Hero Action combat system transforms the pacing of long grinding sessions, all backed by the unmistakable soundtrack of Kohei Tanaka and Motoi Sakuraba. This renewed momentum for classic Japanese role-playing games echoes the recent 1 million sales milestone celebrated by Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven.

Players who have been following Final Fantasy Resonance's record-breaking Steam launch will find one of the most delightfully absurd firearm customization grids ever put into a console RPG.

A $9.99 Steam DLC and PS4-to-PS5 Upgrade Path

When it comes to pricing, tri-Ace has set up a paid upgrade path for existing owners who bought the 2018 port. On PlayStation 5, the standalone release is priced at $34.99 (€34.99 / £28.99 / ¥4,070), while players who already own the PlayStation 4 digital version can upgrade to the native PS5 build for $9.99 (€10.25).

On PC (Steam), the upgrade is sold as an add-on expansion titled Resonance of Fate / End of Eternity Enhanced Remaster for $9.99 (€10.25). Newcomers on Steam must purchase the base 4K/HD Edition ($34.99) before applying the Enhanced Remaster downloadable content.

For physical collectors who still prefer the original 2010 Seventh Generation release, a boxed copy of Resonance of Fate on PlayStation 3 currently trades at an approachable $20.34 loose, $27.55 complete in box (CIB), and $52.79 factory sealed on the secondary market.

My Perspective

I couldn't help but laugh out loud when this popped up on Steam: remastering a 2018 remaster and charging ten bucks for 120 FPS and a fast-forward toggle is peak industry audacity. Yet the second I remember spending hours bolting six scopes and three barrels onto a single submachine gun in tri-Ace's gloriously unhinged weapon grid, I can't stay mad at this weird little masterpiece.

That 2x speed mode is an absolute lifesaver when you're clearing hexes across Basel's metallic floors for the twentieth time in a row. If you missed out on Vashyron, Zephyr, and Leanne back in 2010 or 2018, having a native PS5 version running at 120 frames per second is easily the best way to experience their bullet-time ballet.
