R.E.P.O. Is Coming to Nintendo Switch 2 in 2027 as Semiwork Prepares Its 6-Player Physics Horror Hit for Console

After becoming one of PC gaming's biggest breakout multiplayer phenomena since entering Early Access in February 2025, R.E.P.O. is officially making the jump to consoles. Swedish independent studio semiwork and Nintendo have confirmed that the physics-driven cooperative horror game will launch digitally on the Nintendo Switch 2 eShop in 2027.
Backed by more than 348,000 positive user reviews on Steam at a budget $9.99 price point, the Switch 2 edition brings the full six-player online co-op experience and cross-platform play to Nintendo's next-generation hybrid hardware. The 2027 console window aligns directly with the Uppsala-based team's push toward the game's full version 1.0 release.

Hauling Grand Pianos in the Dark Under Newton's Law of Gravity
First showcased during Nintendo's October 2026 Indie World presentation, R.E.P.O. (short for Retrieve, Extract & Profit Operation) puts up to six players in the metallic shells of wide-eyed cylindrical scavenging robots known as semibots. Dispatched by a ruthless computer intelligence called the Taxman, your squad must comb through the haunted remnants of a long-lost humanity to meet strict cash quotas.
Every expedition revolves around a fully simulated physics engine where weight, momentum, and fragility govern every interaction. Using a physics-based grabbing tool, players must lift and carry everything from delicate porcelain vases and museum displays to coffins and massive grand pianos that require three or four teammates lifting in unison.
Scraping a doorway or dropping a crate down a flight of stairs immediately deducts dollars from the object's value, or shatters it outright. Even the monsters stalking the corridors obey Newton's law of gravity, allowing coordinated squads with strength upgrades or zero-gravity staffs to physically grab and slam threats back into the shadows.

Proximity Voice Chat Where a Single Laugh Gives Your Squad Away
What turned semiwork's creation into a viral staple is its combination of high-stakes stealth and proximity voice chat. Whenever you speak into your microphone, your semibot's hinged metal jaw flaps in real time to match your voice, turning every panicked whisper into slapstick comedy.
That comedic flair comes with a lethal catch: entities like the floating Headman, the Mentalist, and the Rugrat actively hunt by sound. When a monster enters the room, the entire crew has to scramble underneath tables or behind cabinets and hold their breath, knowing that a single burst of nervous laughter over the mic will wipe out the whole run.
Paired with the built-in microphone and social features of the Nintendo Switch 2, the game joins an increasingly strong 2027 multiplayer lineup on Nintendo's platform alongside titles like HoYoverse's Petit Planet.

Update v0.5.0 Already Lays the Groundwork With Native Gamepad Support and 21 Languages
Right alongside the Nintendo Switch 2 announcement, semiwork rolled out its fourth major PC content patch, v0.5.0 (The Sunstone Update), which directly builds the technical foundation for next year's console launch. Most notably, the update introduces full native gamepad support, complete with a redesigned expression wheel and an adjustable Grab Lead setting tailored for swinging melee weapons and rotating heavy valuables with analog sticks.
The patch also expands localization to 21 languages, keeps microphone input active without freezes during level loading screens, and adds a brand-new fifth environment, the Sunstone Valley Resort, alongside a new Pony enemy and 18 additional rooms spread across Headman Manor, Swiftbroom Academy, Museum of Human Art, and McJannek Station.
My Perspective
I am thrilled to see R.E.P.O. heading to Nintendo Switch 2, because no other co-op game right now turns a simple moving job into pure comedy quite as fast. Anyone who has tried to carry a fragile grand piano down a narrow staircase with four friends, only for one panicked teammate to clip the banister and watch thousands of dollars evaporate on impact, knows how effortlessly this game ruins friendships in the best possible way.
With native controller support, adjustable analog grab lead, and uninterrupted voice chat during loading screens already live in the Sunstone Update, semiwork is clearly doing the legwork to make the console version feel right at home on a Pro Controller or Joy-Con 2. I can already picture myself crouched under a manor desk in handheld mode in 2027, desperately trying not to giggle into the mic while a teammate's tin jaw flaps in the dark.
