Up to $2,010 and +105% in Czechia: How the Memory Shortage and GTA 6 Drained PS5 Pro Stock

PlayStation 5 Pro next to PS5 Slim and DualSense controller

Finding a brand-new PlayStation 5 Pro at MSRP has turned into a serious challenge across Central Europe. Just three weeks ahead of the launch of Grand Theft Auto VI, market data from Czech price-comparison platform Zboží.cz reveals that the entry price for Sony's flagship console has more than doubled since January 2026, even as major retailers face widespread stockouts.

From $810 to Over $2,010: Inside the 105% Price Spike on Zboží.cz

Pricing records tracked across the Czech market highlight just how severely supply has tightened this fall. At the start of 2026, buyers in Czechia could pick up a new PS5 Pro for 18,985 Czech koruna (CZK), or roughly $810 (€750). By late October, the lowest available listing on Zboží.cz has jumped by 20,005 CZK to reach 38,990 CZK (around $1,665 / €1,540), marking a 105% surge for the exact same hardware.

Marketplace listings climbed even higher during the past week. At its weekly peak on Zboží.cz, remaining PS5 Pro units hit 47,120 CZK (approximately $2,010 / €1,860), nearly two and a half times the console's January price. Across local comparison portals such as Heureka.cz and major electronics stores, several retailers have pulled their PS5 Pro product pages entirely due to a lack of incoming shipments, leaving only high-markup third-party sellers with available stock.

AI Memory Bottlenecks and Supply Constraints Into Early 2027

The shortage is far from a strictly local anomaly. In internal notices sent to European retail partners, Sony Interactive Entertainment warned that temporary market supply constraints and elevated demand could keep PS5 Pro inventory tight through early 2027 at the earliest. Even Sony's own PlayStation Direct storefront has repeatedly run out of stock in recent weeks.

A primary driver behind the hardware bottleneck is the global memory chip squeeze. Massive data center expansion for artificial intelligence has absorbed manufacturing capacity for both high-speed system memory (GDDR6 and DDR5) and NAND flash storage used in the console's 2 TB SSD. Those rising component costs already pushed Sony to raise the official retail price of the PS5 Pro to $899.99 (€899.99 / £789.99) in April 2026, up from its original $699.99 (€799.99) launch price in November 2024, with the Blu-ray disc drive and vertical stand still sold separately.

The GTA 6 Hardware Rush Ahead of November 19

The second catalyst fueling the shortage comes from Rockstar Games. With Grand Theft Auto VI launching exclusively on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19, 2026,and no PC version available on day one, players are scrambling to secure the most capable console on the market. As we recently broke down in our analysis of what GTA 6 really costs to play with a PS5 Pro on November 19, the total hardware and software bill was already steep before reseller markups entered the picture.

Under the hood, the PS5 Pro delivers up to 45% faster rasterized rendering, up to 3x faster ray tracing, and a dedicated 300 TOPS machine-learning block powering PSSR 2 at 2 ms versus QSSR on the base PS5. Still, paying more than double its initial price changes the value equation entirely.

My Test Bench

Let me be blunt: paying $1,665 to $2,010 (€1,540 to €1,860) to third-party resellers for a PlayStation 5 Pro makes zero hardware sense. As impressive as Sony's 300 TOPS GPU block and PSSR 2 upscaler are in 4K, the machine still relies on the same 8-core AMD Zen 2 CPU architecture as the base model, which will be the primary bottleneck for crowd density and world simulation in GTA 6. At $1,800+, you are firmly in high-end desktop PC territory with a Ryzen X3D processor and a dedicated graphics card in a completely different league. If you cannot find a PS5 Pro at its official $899.99 MSRP before November 19, stick with a standard PS5 running the new QSSR upscaler and wait for restocks to stabilize in early 2027.
