PlayStation Prices Its New Planar Magnetic Pulse Wireless Headset at $99.99 Ahead of a November 19 Launch

Sony Interactive Entertainment has officially locked in the pricing and release calendar for its next-generation PS5 audio hardware. First unveiled in September by Joe Bentley, Vice President of Engineering at Sony Interactive Entertainment, the new PlayStation Pulse wireless headset will launch on November 19, 2026, at a recommended retail price of $99.99 USD (£89.99 GBP / €99.99 EUR / ¥15,980 JPY).
Pre-orders will open next week on Thursday, October 29, 2026, at 7:00 AM PT in the United States via PlayStation Direct (and at 10:00 AM local time across the UK and Europe) as well as through participating retailers. At launch, the headset will be available in two signature finishes matching the console ecosystem: White and Midnight Black.

Larger Planar Magnetic Drivers Under the $100 Mark
The biggest hardware leap inside the 2026 PlayStation Pulse revision lies inside its earcups. After introducing planar magnetic drivers on the $149.99 Pulse Elite back in 2024, Sony is bringing studio-inspired planar transducers down to its mainstream $99.99 price tier, matching the exact launch MSRP of the original 2020 Pulse 3D headset.

Unlike conventional dynamic cone drivers, planar magnetic transducers drive a flat diaphragm evenly across its surface, minimizing harmonic distortion and delivering ultra-fast transient response. For this refreshed lineup, PlayStation's acoustic engineers fitted larger custom planar magnetic drivers designed to produce fuller, deeper bass while preserving crisp sound separation. In competitive shooters and action games utilizing PS5's Tempest 3D AudioTech engine, that spatial accuracy makes it significantly easier to track footsteps, weapon reloads, and vertical audio cues.
Dual PlayStation Link + Bluetooth Connectivity and Lay-Flat Earcups
On the wireless front, the new PlayStation Pulse features full support for PlayStation Link, delivering lossless, ultra-low-latency audio and seamless switching between a PS5 console, PC, Mac, and Sony's dedicated remote play handheld, just as the Wi-Fi Alliance recently certified a major OLED upgrade for the PlayStation Portal.
Alongside PlayStation Link, the headset supports simultaneous Bluetooth connectivity, allowing players to monitor mobile voice chat or answer phone calls while listening to lossless game audio from their console. Voice capture relies on an integrated hidden microphone backed by AI-enhanced noise rejection trained to filter out controller button clicks and ambient room noise.
Sony has also reworked the physical chassis for long-session comfort and portability: the new headband assembly introduces rotating earcups that lay flat, making the headset far more comfortable to rest around your neck between matches or pack into a backpack.
Pre-Order Schedule and Early 2027 Window for the Flagship Pulse Edge
The November 19 launch wave covers the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Benelux, the Nordics, Australia, New Zealand, and Japan via PlayStation Direct and major retail partners.

Players holding out for the higher-end PlayStation Pulse Edge wireless headset will have to wait until early 2027. Built as the flagship tier of the new lineup, the Pulse Edge doubles the magnet volume of its planar magnetic drivers compared to the standard PlayStation Pulse, while adding active noise cancellation (ANC), a detachable boom mic paired with a secondary hidden mic, and a protective carrying case.

My Test Bench: Planar Magnetic Drivers Under $100 Change the Console Audio Game
I honestly expected Sony to push its entry-level wireless headset closer to $119.99 or $129.99 given the acoustic hardware under the hood. Keeping the $99.99 MSRP intact while swapping out the old 40mm dynamic drivers of the 2020 Pulse 3D for larger custom planar magnetic transducers is a massive win for console players on a budget.
When I tested the first-generation planar drivers on the Pulse Elite, the midrange clarity and treble imaging were already miles ahead of standard gaming headsets, though the low end occasionally felt a bit lean during heavy explosions. By increasing the planar driver size to reinforce sub-bass response, adding lay-flat rotating earcups, and baking in simultaneous PlayStation Link and Bluetooth at $99.99, this new PlayStation Pulse fixes every major shortcoming of the original model without raising the price tag.
