"That's a Conversation for Rockstar": Why Nintendo's President Isn't Ruling Out GTA 6 on Switch 2

GTA 6 on Switch 2

Just a few months ago, the mere thought of Grand Theft Auto VI running on Nintendo hardware sounded like wishful thinking. That question, however, has just been put directly to the highest levels of Nintendo leadership.

Asked about the possibility of Rockstar Games bringing GTA 6 to the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo of America President Devon Pritchard delivered a response that immediately caught the attention of the entire industry.

"That's going to be a conversation for Take-Two and Rockstar, but nothing to announce on my end at this time."

This statement represents a clear shift from Nintendo's historical playbook. When dealing with mature-rated titles or graphically overwhelming blockbusters, Nintendo leadership traditionally offered polite deflections or total silence.

Here, the head of Nintendo of America leaves the door wide open. Instead of dismissing the concept, she directly passes the ball back to Take-Two Interactive and the creative leads behind Vice City.

Technical Feasibility Powered by Nvidia Silicon

The conversation around a portable edition of Leonida is credible today because the hardware baseline of the Switch 2 is completely different from the original 2017 hybrid.

Powered by custom Nvidia Tegra silicon, the upcoming machine integrates dedicated Tensor cores built specifically for AI-driven DLSS reconstruction. This allows games to output clean high-definition visuals without choking raw GPU compute.

Paired with dedicated hardware decompression and modern memory pipelines, targeting 1080p at 30 frames per second is no longer impossible. It would certainly require concessions on pedestrian density and overall draw distance, a balance we previously examined when discussing the architecture and specs of the Switch 2.

Take-Two's Commercial Equation and Release Priority

On Take-Two's side of the table, relations with Nintendo are stronger than ever. CEO Strauss Zelnick has consistently stated that his company intends to support any platform with substantial player adoption.

Bringing the biggest entertainment launch in history to a massive portable userbase offers undeniable commercial upside. However, Rockstar Games has always maintained strict release discipline.

For day one, Rockstar is dedicating all engineering power to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S to establish an untouchable visual benchmark. Much like the community's strategic rollout plans, any potential Switch 2 version would arrive as a dedicated secondary phase once the initial console launch is firmly locked in.
