Ghost Haunting: Daedalic Unveils Its Monkey Island-Inspired Point-and-Click Adventure for PS5 and Switch 2

Ghost Haunting PS5 Switch 2

German publisher Daedalic Entertainment and indie developer Three Headed Monkey Studios have officially announced console versions for Ghost Haunting. Slated to join the 2027 video game release calendar on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, the retro-styled 2D point-and-click adventure also received a free playable demo on November 4, 2026.

Named in tribute to the iconic three-headed monkey from The Secret of Monkey Island, the studio wears its 1990s LucasArts inspiration on its sleeve. PC players can download the trial right now via the official Ghost Haunting Steam page, while console players can already wishlist the adventure on the official PlayStation Store concept page.

An Eight-Year-Old Troublemaker, a Pumpkin Demon, and the Realm of the Dead

Ghost Haunting puts players in the shoes of Gigi, a mischievous eight-year-old girl spending her vacation with her grumpy grandfather, Giovanni. While snooping around the family estate, she discovers that her grandfather is secretly a legendary ghost hunter.

Teaming up with Baron Butternut, a loudmouthed pumpkin-demon sidekick, Gigi decides to rescue her late grandmother from the realm of the dead. Her childlike logic is simple: if ghosts can cross over into the world of the living, the trip should work in reverse too, even if tampering with the afterlife threatens to trigger a global catastrophe.

Low-Resolution Pixel Art Meets a Not-Getting-Stuck Guarantee

Three Headed Monkey Studios has crafted the entire adventure in expressive, low-resolution 2D pixel art filled with eccentric characters. Across her journey, Gigi crosses paths with one-quarter dead zombies, afterlife "deathstyle" coaches, and the bureaucratic Invisible Olympic Committee.

While the visual presentation and branching dialogue trees channel 90s graphic adventures like Day of the Tentacle as well as Daedalic classics like Deponia, the gameplay strips out old-school pixel-hunting frustration. The game features a built-in hint system, fast travel across locations, and instant hotspot highlighting.

The developers even advertise a tongue-in-cheek "not-getting-stuck guarantee" so players never have to rub every inventory item against every background prop for hours. Coupled with full controller support out of the box, these comfort options align closely with standardized accessibility tags across Switch and Switch 2.

My Perspective

As much as I adore the classic point-and-click adventures I grew up with, I have zero nostalgia for absurd 1990s moon-logic puzzles where you had to tape a cat under a leaky gutter to make a fake mustache. Getting this level of hand-drawn pixel charm, a chaotic eight-year-old heroine, and a snarky talking pumpkin without the tedious pixel hunting is the exact sweet spot the genre needs.

This is the kind of cozy, darkly funny adventure made for curling up on the couch with a Switch 2 in handheld mode next year. Having a playable demo live today is a great way to test whether Three Headed Monkey Studios can back up its visual charm with sharp puzzle design.
