Derelikt Launches November 13 on PS5: 1999 PS1 Texture Warping, Saturn Orbit Horror, and 10% Pre-Order Discount

Five years after beginning its tumultuous development journey in late 2021, Derelikt has officially locked in its console launch date. Solo creator and art director Philipp Jensen (founder of Visuwyg), alongside publisher Hyperstrange, announced on the official PlayStation Blog that the retro sci-fi survival horror title will launch on November 13, 2026, for PlayStation 5 (as well as PC). Its pitch is unapologetically nostalgic: making your modern console feel like it just shed five hardware generations to return to 1999, when late-era PlayStation classics squeezed every last drop of performance out of 32-bit silicon.

Paranoia and Cosmic Dread in Saturn's Orbit

Derelikt is set aboard the Von Neumann Outpost, a remote research facility grafted directly onto an anomalous asteroid discovered orbiting Saturn. Players step into the boots of an outside contractor sent in to investigate the sudden disappearance of Excavation Team Delta on the derelict surface. Things spiral out of control the moment you dock: life-support systems are failing, the corridors are pitched into darkness, and an eerie, relentless drone is pushing the remaining crew members toward their breaking point.

The cramped industrial halls of the Von Neumann Outpost combine vertex color lighting with claustrophobic late-90s sci-fi atmosphere.

As you navigate the station, you will interact with more than a dozen survivors, each harboring conflicting stories, personal secrets, and hidden agendas. As Jensen notes, some NPCs are helpful, some are dangerous, some are doomed, and most of them are all three at once. That constant distrust inside a failing deep-space vessel echoes the psychological paranoia that made Mouthwashing such a standout sci-fi horror hit on PS5, while layering in fast-paced gunplay and tactical combat.

Fast Gunplay, Alien Prototypes, and Old-School Puzzles

Beneath its fifth-generation aesthetic, Derelikt balances aggressive combat with strict survival horror fundamentals. While the Von Neumann Outpost is stocked with conventional firearms to fend off otherworldly monstrosities, thorough exploration rewards players with experimental weapon prototypes and even alien weaponry. Surviving the station requires careful resource management, branching dialogue interactions, and old-school environmental puzzle solving designed to keep tension high between firefights.

Built Like a Lost 1999 CD-R Found in an Abandoned Storage Unit

Where many throwback horror games settle for a basic low-resolution pixel filter, Visuwyg approached the PSOne look as a technical discipline. Jensen set out to make Derelikt look as though it had been discovered on a CD-R in the dusty storage unit of a defunct late-90s studio and faithfully ported to current hardware. To prove that retro does not mean crude, the game replicates the exact rendering techniques used by high-end 1999 releases:

  • 100% hand-painted textures paired with authentic vertex color lighting.
  • Deliberate affine texture warping mitigated in real time by dynamically subdividing the geometry, mirroring how late-generation PSOne engines stabilized their 3D environments.
  • Retro full-motion CGI cutscenes (FMV) modeled after late-90s disc transitions.
  • Customizable visual toggles allowing players to switch retro warping and filter effects on or off to match their personal preference.

PS5 Release Date and PlayStation Store Pre-Order Discount

Arriving on November 13, 2026 as a notable indie highlight on the November 2026 video game release calendar, Derelikt is available to pre-order right now on the PlayStation Store with a 10% discount ahead of launch day on PS5. The game will also launch simultaneously on PC via Steam, GOG, and the Epic Games Store.

My Perspective

What immediately stands out about Philipp Jensen's approach is his refusal to treat 32-bit visuals as a shortcut forcrude or unfinished art. Back in 1999, when the original PlayStation was being pushed to its absolute limit by games like Silent Hill, Dino Crisis, and Alien Resurrection, hardware quirks actively fueled the dread: shimmering walls and harsh vertex shadows forced your imagination to fill in the blanks. Implementing dynamic geometry subdivision to tame affine texture warping while letting players toggle those effects at will shows genuine respect for fifth-generation craftsmanship. Dropping on November 13 right as the entire industry braces for the GTA 6 juggernaut is also a gutsy counter-programming move: for horror fans craving a tight, hand-painted deep-space nightmare with a 10% pre-order discount, this trip to Saturn's orbit looks like the perfect late-night escape.
