Locked at 30 FPS for 11 Years on PS4 and PS5: Bloodborne Still Sold 251,000 Copies in 2026 to Surpass 10.4 Million Lifetime Sales

Bloodborne FromSoftware PlayStation 4 PS5 Yharnam Sales

More than eleven years after its original PlayStation 4 launch on March 24, 2015, FromSoftware and Japan Studio's gothic masterpiece refuses to fade from the charts. According to new market data shared by Rhys Elliott, head of market analysis at Alinea Analytics, Bloodborne sold approximately 251,000 copies in 2026 alone. It is a remarkable commercial milestone for a PS4 exclusive that remains untouched technically, lacking even a basic 60 FPS PlayStation 5 patch or an official PC port.

251,000 Copies Sold in 2026 and 10.4 Million Lifetime Sales

The figures compiled by Alinea Analytics shed light on the true long-tail momentum behind the gothic action-RPG. After crossing an earlier estimated milestone of 9.3 million units (building considerably on the 7.46 million copies revealed in internal Insomniac Games documents through fiscal year 2021-2022), Bloodborne has now reached an estimated 10.4 million copies sold worldwide. Across its lifetime, the title directed by Hidetaka Miyazaki has generated roughly $317 million in total revenue.

The cursed streets of Yharnam continue to draw hundreds of thousands of new Hunters every year on PS4 and PS5.

Beyond direct full-game purchases, engagement through Sony Interactive Entertainment's subscription tiers has expanded its audience even further. According to Rhys Elliott's report, more than 5.7 million additional players have sampled the game via PlayStation Plus over the years. In October alone, fueled by the Halloween season, over 500,000 PlayStation Plus subscribers booted up the hunt across Yharnam.

The FromSoftware Halo Effect Meets PlayStation's Silence

Why is an eleven-year-old console exclusive still attracting a quarter of a million buyers in 2026? Much of that staying power stems from the massive global growth of FromSoftware's catalog over the past four years. The runaway triumph of Elden Ring and its 36.4 million lifetime sales alongside the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion has consistently driven waves of newcomers to explore Hidetaka Miyazaki's earlier works.

That curiosity has also been stoked by the studio's upcoming slate. Even with The Duskbloods delayed to 2027 on Nintendo Switch 2, its Victorian gothic atmosphere immediately echoed the blood-soaked aesthetic of Bloodborne and its The Old Hunters expansion. For hundreds of thousands of PlayStation 5 owners, picking up the original PS4 release remains the only official way to experience the game.

Despite the hardware power of PS5 and PS5 Pro, the game remains locked at 1080p and 30 frames per second on console.

Still Trapped at 1080p and 30 FPS While PC Emulation Accelerates

This organic demand makes Sony Interactive Entertainment's inaction all the more baffling. While much newer PlayStation titles such as Horizon Zero Dawn and Until Dawn received full remasters across PlayStation 5 and PC, Bloodborne remains frozen in its 2015 code: a 1080p resolution capped at 30 frames per second, complete with its notorious uneven frame pacing.

On the production side, official avenues have narrowed following the 2021 reorganization of Japan Studio and the subsequent closure of Bluepoint Games, the studio behind the acclaimed PS5 remake of Demon's Souls. Left without an official upgrade, the PC community took matters into its own hands through rapid advances in the PlayStation 4 emulator shadPS4, which now runs the game at 60 FPS and higher resolutions.

My Perspective

There is something genuinely surreal about watching Sony leave this much money sitting on the table year after year. Selling 251,000 copies in 2026 for a 2015 single-player game that has received zero PS5 patches, zero 60 FPS updates, and zero marketing push is the kind of organic demand any publisher would kill for. Instead of dropping a straightforward framerate patch or greenlighting an official PC port that would shatter Steam charts overnight, PlayStation is content to watch fans build their own remaster on shadPS4 while quietly collecting checks from a 30 FPS PS4 build. As long as Yharnam keeps selling itself through pure word of mouth, Sony clearly feels no rush, even if a landmark action-RPG deserves far better preservation.
