Nintendo Indie World October 2026 Recap: Witchbrook Release Date, R.E.P.O., Sword of the Sea, and All 23 Switch 2 Reveals

Witchbrook and Nintendo Indie World October 2026 Switch 2 Announcements

Nintendo delivered a packed 15-minute Indie World Showcase on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, spotlighting 23 independent titles heading to both the original Nintendo Switch and the Nintendo Switch 2. Headlined by a firm release date for Chucklefish's long-awaited Witchbrook, an immediate launch window for Sword of the Sea, and a Switch 2 port for viral co-op hit R.E.P.O., the broadcast mapped out a stacked schedule running through 2027.

Following yesterday's official announcement of the October Indie World air time, Nintendo wasted no time rolling out world premieres, eShop demos playable today, and console exclusives tailored for its next-generation hybrid hardware.

Witchbrook Locks In January 28, 2027 Release Date

After years at the top of indie wishlists, Chucklefish and co-developer Robotality officially confirmed that Witchbrook will launch on January 28, 2027 for Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PC, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PlayStation 5.

A fresh gameplay trailer offered our closest look yet at student life inside Witchbrook College and the surrounding seaside town of Mossport. Aspiring witches will attend classes in alchemy, astrology, tarot, and rituals, sit for seasonal exams, customize their own woodland cottage, run a local magical shop, and explore the town together in 4-player online co-op.

Sword of the Sea Launches Tomorrow Alongside Reveals for City of None, R.E.P.O., and Tenjutsu

Beyond Mossport's magical academy, several acclaimed indie studios brought major announcements to the showcase:

  • Sword of the Sea (October 29, 2026 on Switch 2): Giant Squid and creative director Matt Nava (the artistic visionary behind Journey, Abzû, and The Pathless) are bringing their high-speed Hoversword adventure to Nintendo Switch 2 tomorrow.
  • City of None (2027 on Switch and Switch 2): Extremely OK Games and Celeste co-creators Noel and Liam Berry unveiled a brand-new action and puzzle-platforming adventure set across a sprawling metropolis inhabited by strange spirits, beasts, and ferocious robots.
  • R.E.P.O. (2027 on Switch 2): Developer semiwork's physics-driven 6-player co-op extraction horror phenomenon is officially making the jump to Nintendo Switch 2 next year.
  • Tenjutsu (2027 on Switch 2): Created by Dead Cells lead designer Sébastien Benard at Deepnight Games and published by Devolver Digital, this fast-paced martial arts roguelike pits a rogue yakuza operative against four crime syndicates in Secret Garden City.
  • Slime Rancher 2 (January 2027 on Switch 2) and Threads of Time (Summer 2027 on Switch and Switch 2): Monomi Park confirmed a January arrival for Rainbow Island on Switch 2, while Riyo Games and Humble Games showcased new footage of their Chrono Trigger-inspired 2.5D time-traveling RPG.

My Perspective

It is rare for a fifteen-minute showcase to pack this much auteur pedigree without a single filler segment. What stands out to me most in this October 2026 presentation is how decisively independent studios have pivoted to the Nintendo Switch 2: more than two-thirds of the lineup is built around the newer hardware, whether for the sweeping 60 FPS dunes of Sword of the Sea tomorrow or the razor-sharp pixel art of Tenjutsu and Threads of Time. Having Witchbrook finally lock in a January 28, 2027 date while getting a surprise look at City of None from the co-creators of Celeste makes early 2027 look extraordinary for indie fans.
