Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4 Campaign Guide: All Safe and Keypad Codes to Unlock Every Container

Across the 16 missions that make up the single-player campaign of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, four chapters feature locked safes, a padlocked red toolbox, keypad doors, shipping containers, and hidden underground bunkers (the other 12 missions contain no code locks). While three of these keypad doors sit directly on the main story path, every other lock guards high-tier survival gear, contraband collectibles, and two completionist trophies that are easy to miss on a first playthrough.
Whether you jumped in early via the 115 GB Modern Warfare 4 campaign early access release or you are replaying chapters on Veteran difficulty for 100% completion, here is the complete breakdown of all 13 exact codes, the math behind every sequence puzzle, and the exact rewards waiting inside.

Mission 3 (Following Orders): Red Toolbox Code 214 and Location
During Mission 3, Following Orders (where Special Forces hunt down a defector in North Korea), you are tasked with searching a house belonging to a civilian couple. Step into the small side room on the right to spot a red metal toolbox sitting on a wooden shelf with a three-digit combination padlock.
- Locked red toolbox code: 214

If you want to solve the riddle naturally, inspect the Baekseolgi-Tteok Recipe note in the kitchen, which lists the exact proportions for flour (2), water (1), and raisins (4) while instructing you to skip the salt. Inside the box, you will collect a note and contraband medicine that count toward the No Stone Unturned achievement. Quick tip: if you want to skip the dial interface entirely, firing a single bullet into the padlock will snap it right off.
Mission 8 (Assassins): All Three Door and Bunker Keypad Codes
In Mission 8, Assassins (which flashes back a day prior to the North Korean invasion as you fight through an internal coup), three keypad-locked doors block the critical story path. Because unlocking them is mandatory to advance the chapter, there are no optional collectibles hidden behind them. Your squad radios each four-digit combination as you approach the keypad, though it is easy to miss the audio cue during firefights if subtitles are turned off:
- First door code (up the stairs past the library): 5523
- Second door code (just past the kitchen area): 7632
- Third door code (main bunker entrance): 9103

Mission 10 (Stranded): All 6 Shipping Container and 2 Hidden Bunker Codes
Mission 10, Stranded, drops you into an open-combat survival sector behind enemy lines after Sierra-1 is split up. Across the snowy map, you can track down six keypad-locked shipping containers and two underground bunkers. Each shipping container has a clipboard attached next to the keypad listing three "Old previously used codes": figuring out the mathematical pattern gives you the fourth active code.
- 1. Base Camp Container (coords 644, 158, near the radio tower): 0024
Sequence puzzle: the note lists 0006, 0012, and 0018 (adding 6 each time).
Exact reward: the Tactical Map (grab this container first, as it marks the other containers and supply caches across your map), plus ammo and a yellow supply crate. - 2. Cliff Near Base Camp Container (coords 646, 158, cliffside north of Base Camp): 0600
Sequence puzzle: the note lists 9300, 6400, and 3500 (subtracting 2900 at each step, as shown in our featured image at the top of this guide).
Exact reward: a yellow supply crate packed with armor plates and weapon upgrades. - 3. South of Jamming Station Container (coords 667, 125, near the fuel truck): 8609
Sequence puzzle: the note lists 5903, 6805, and 7707 (adding 902 each time).
Exact reward: the Backpack Upgrade (essential for expanding your inventory capacity during the open-world mission) and a yellow supply cache. - 4. Big Sign Container (coords 634, 136, near the highway sign structure): 1234
Sequence puzzle: the note lists 1000, 1200, and 1230 (replacing one zero at a time with the sequence 1, 2, 3, 4).
Exact reward: a yellow supply crate filled with tactical equipment and base camp materials. - 5. Southeast Village Container (coords 652, 187): 0078
Sequence puzzle: the note lists 0012, 0034, and 0056 (increasing by 22 each step, or following the digit pairs 12, 34, 56, 78).
Exact reward: the Heartbeat Sensor, campaign intel notes, and a yellow supply crate. - 6. Small Island Container (coords 618, 132, on the small river island): 6789
Sequence puzzle: the note lists 3456, 4567, and 5678 (shifting every digit up by one, or +1111).
Exact reward: the Tracking Device, a collectible note, and a yellow supply cache. - 7. Farm Field Hidden Bunker (coords 631, 127): 0330
Riddle solution: the note resting on top of the keypad tells you to sum the outpost numbers of the map's four Logistics Stations (10 + 20 + 100 + 200 = 0330).
Exact reward: campaign intel notes and a yellow supply cache. - 8. Northwest Island Hidden Bunker (coords 615, 169): 0008
Riddle solution: derived from the Infantry Checkpoint numbers running along the river.
Exact reward: tactical gear, a hidden intel note, and a yellow supply crate.
Cracking open every container and bunker in this sector is essential for tracking down all 26 yellow supply caches required to pop the Time to Crate achievement before you transition into grinding the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 Prestige levels and Level 1,000 rewards in multiplayer.
Mission 13 (Escape): Safe Code 8410 for Gaz's Dog Tags
Near the end of Mission 13, Escape, listen closely when Ghost calls out over the radio that the "Garage is close." Right after exiting the barracks hallway, clear out the adjacent office area divided by a glass partition to find a green wall safe next to the filing cabinets.
- Escape wall safe code: 8410

You can find the combination written on a note titled Code Updated inside the unlocked side room nearby. Punching 8410 into the safe rewards you with Gaz's Dog Tags and immediately unlocks the Never Forgotten trophy and achievement.
My Take
I really like how Infinity Ward handled the pacing of these lock puzzles across the campaign. Letting impatient players simply shoot the padlock off the red toolbox in Following Orders is a great touch of environmental realism, while the number sequences on the snow-covered containers in Stranded, especially grabbing the Tactical Map at Base Camp and the Backpack Upgrade, and the tribute to Gaz in Escape make exploring off the beaten path genuinely rewarding.
