Cyberpunk 2077 Live-Action Movie Officially in Development at Paramount with CD Projekt Red
Night City is officially heading to Hollywood. Paramount Pictures has started active development on a full live-action feature film set in the Cyberpunk 2077 universe, co-produced directly with CD Projekt Red.
According to American film industry revelations shared by Deadline, high-stakes negotiations culminated in a major studio partnership to bring the neon-drenched dystopia to theaters worldwide.
Lorenzo di Bonaventura to Produce the Night City Epic
Paramount has tapped veteran Hollywood producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura to spearhead the cinematic adaptation. His track record includes blockbuster franchises such as Transformers and G.I. Joe, along with the supernatural hit Constantine.
Bringing such a seasoned producer on board signals significant creative and financial backing. Crucially, CD Projekt Red will serve as an official co-producer, ensuring creative alignment from day one.
CD Projekt Red Joint CEO Michał Nowakowski confirmed the project with genuine enthusiasm. The Polish studio will maintain rigorous oversight over the visual atmosphere, artistic direction, and faithful representation of the franchise lore.
An Original Story Set in the Cyberpunk Universe
Rather than rehashing V and Johnny Silverhand's narrative from the game, the movie will feature a brand-new, original storyline. The screenplay will immerse moviegoers directly into the cutthroat street warfare and cyberware-fueled underworld of Night City.
This creative direction mirrors the critical acclaim achieved by the animated series Cyberpunk Edgerunners, which expanded the franchise without mirroring the game campaign. The futuristic megalopolis, ruled by ruthless megacorporations, will stand as the ultimate central figure of the film.
Following high-profile video game adaptations like Sony's live-action Helldivers movie, Hollywood continues to view prestigious gaming universes as the premier battleground for cinematic storytelling.
Directors and Lead Cast Currently Under Consideration
The adaptation remains in its early development phases. Creative teams from Paramount and CD Projekt Red are currently shaping the screenplay while evaluating seasoned directors to helm the production.
Casting calls will officially commence once the initial script draft is locked, and no theatrical release date has been set yet. For CD Projekt Red, this Hollywood partnership firmly establishes Cyberpunk 2077 as an enduring worldwide cross-media powerhouse.
