Gears of War: E-Day Celebrates 20 Years With Free General RAAM Unlock, Guardian Mode, and Season 2: Legacy on December 1

20 Years Crimson Omen Lancer rifle skin in Gears of War: E-Day celebrating the 20th anniversary

Twenty years after Marcus Fenix, Dominic Santiago, and the chainsaw bayonet of the Mark 2 Lancer first stormed onto the Xbox 360 on November 7, 2006, The Coalition and Xbox Game Studios are marking two decades of locust warfare. On November 6, 2026, the studio officially launched the 20th Anniversary celebration inside Gears of War: E-Day, rolling out a two-week in-game event across Versus and Horde Siege, a free General RAAM multiplayer character unlock starting November 7, and the official reveal of Season 2: Legacy, set to arrive on December 1, 2026.

Free General RAAM Login Gift on November 7 Alongside Guardian and For the Queen

Following its October launch backed by Microsoft's massive custom Unreal Engine investment at The Coalition, Gears of War: E-Day serves as the centerpiece of the franchise's 20th birthday right alongside the broader Xbox 25th Anniversary celebrations. To mark the exact November 7 milestone, The Coalition is giving away iconic Locust High General RAAM (featured in his Conqueror Uzil RAAM armor) as a free multiplayer character to every player who logs into the game.

At the same time, a two-week anniversary event has gone live with new cosmetic rewards and two fan-favorite playlist variations across competitive and cooperative modes:

  • Guardian (Versus PvP): The classic high-stakes objective mode returns, tasking squads with protecting their designated leader to keep team respawns active while hunting down the enemy commander.
  • For the Queen (Horde Siege PvE): A brutal limited-time Horde Siege variant where the supply cache is completely disabled, forcing squads to survive strictly on their starting loadouts and scavenged battlefield ammunition.
  • 20th Anniversary Cosmetics: Event challenges reward players with themed anniversary gear, highlighted by the blood-soaked "20 Years" Crimson Omen Lancer skin.

Season 2: Legacy Launches December 1 With "Solemn Memories Dom"

Beyond the two-week November event, The Coalition also dated the next major pillar of its post-launch roadmap. Launching on December 1, 2026, Season 2: Legacy will continue honoring two decades of Gears of War history by bringing back classic multiplayer maps, legacy modes, and lore-inspired character skins.

Among the standout cosmetics confirmed for Season 2 is "Solemn Memories Dom", a deeply personal reimagining of Dominic Santiago wearing the civilian suit seen in the iconic keepsake photograph of him and his wife Maria from Gears of War 2.

My Take

By taking the series back to Emergence Day last month, The Coalition already recaptured the oppressive, gritty tone that made the 2006 Xbox 360 original a generational landmark. Handing out General RAAM as a free login gift on November 7 rather than locking him behind a paid store bundle is a genuinely classy move for long-time fans. Even better is the reveal of the Solemn Memories Dom skin for December's Season 2 update: turning Dom and Maria's famous photograph from Gears of War 2 into an actual in-game outfit shows just how deeply the developers respect the emotional core of Delta Squad.
