Gen.G Signs Masters Santiago MVP Dambi and Ex-DRX Star MaKo for VCT Pacific 2027 Valorant Roster

Lee Dambi Hyuk-kyu on stage at Valorant Champions ahead of joining Gen.G alongside MaKo

After a rough 2026 campaign where the organization missed every international tournament on the calendar, Gen.G Esports has pulled off a blockbuster double signing in Korean Valorant. On November 6, 2026, the club officially announced the additions of star duelist Lee "Dambi" Hyuk-kyu (joining from Nongshim RedForce) and veteran controller Kim "MaKo" Myeong-kwan (departing DRX). Paired with returning core pillars Kim "t3xture" Na-ra and Kim "Karon" Won-tae, the four-man foundation gives Gen.G massive firepower heading into 2027, even as the fifth starting spot and In-Game Leader (IGL) role remain undecided.

Dambi and MaKo Join After the VCT Pacific 2027 Partner Shakeup

Both signings stem directly from Riot Games' major league overhaul ahead of next year. While Gen.G secured its place among the 8 partner teams in the restructured VCT Pacific 2027 league, neither Nongshim RedForce nor DRX received direct partner status, forcing both organizations to battle through the single Korean Open Qualifier slot for VCT Pacific Kickoff 2027. Gen.G wasted no time capitalizing on the shakeup to sign two of South Korea's most sought-after players.

Lee "Dambi" Hyuk-kyu arrives as arguably the brightest rising star in the Pacific region. Famous for his relentless entry fragging on Neon, Dambi spearheaded Nongshim RedForce's undefeated runs through both the VCT 2026 Pacific Kickoff and Valorant Masters Santiago 2026, where he claimed the tournament MVP award. With the recent arrival of telekinetic Duelist Agent Hush shaking up the meta, Dambi's mechanical ceiling gives Gen.G an immediate offensive spark.

Alongside him, Kim "MaKo" Myeong-kwan makes a historic career move. After spending five years as the backbone of Vision Strikers and DRX since 2021, the VCT 2025 Pacific Controller of the Year is wearing a new jersey for the very first time. During his tenure with DRX, MaKo secured third-place finishes at both Valorant Champions 2022 and Valorant Champions 2025 in Paris, finished runner-up to Gen.G in VCT 2024 Pacific Stage 2, and captured his first regional trophy at the VCT 2025 Pacific Kickoff.

Rebuilding After a Difficult 2026 Season and Solving the Role Overlap

For Gen.G, this high-profile rebuild is a direct response to a steep competitive decline. After a dominant 2024 season where the team won VCT Pacific Kickoff, Valorant Masters Shanghai 2024, and Pacific Stage 2, followed by narrow runner-up finishes in 2025, Gen.G collapsed domestically throughout 2026:

  • VCT 2026 Pacific Kickoff: 9th-10th place finish.
  • VCT 2026 Pacific Stage 1: 11th-12th place finish.
  • VCT 2026 Pacific Stage 2: 5th-6th place finish, missing Champions qualification.

Following the departure of Ha "Ash" Hyun-cheol upon his contract expiration in early November, Gen.G unveiled Dambi and MaKo during a team livestream hosted by t3xture. During the broadcast, t3xture confirmed that the organization is still trialing candidates for its fifth starting slot under coaches solo and HSK, and that the In-Game Leader (IGL) duties have not yet been assigned.

Beyond the open fifth spot, the current four-man core presents a fascinating tactical puzzle: Gen.G now fields two star Duelists (t3xture and Dambi) alongside two elite Controllers (Karon and MaKo). Unless the coaching staff leans heavily into double-duelist and double-controller compositions, at least one player will need to transition into Initiator or Sentinel duties before the 2027 season begins.

My Take

On paper, putting t3xture, Dambi, Karon, and MaKo on the same server looks like a Korean All-Star dream team: in terms of raw aim and late-round clutch factor, no roster in VCT Pacific comes close. Still, competitive Valorant has repeatedly shown that stacking mechanical superstars without a natural IGL or balanced role distribution can backfire fast. Moving Karon or MaKo off smokes, or forcing t3xture or Dambi onto support agents just to make the lineup fit, carries real risk. Everything hinges on who Gen.G signs as their fifth player: if they lock in a vocal, selfless IGL who can glue these four stars together, they will immediately be title favorites in Seoul.
