PlayStation Plus Premium Quietly Adds the PS5 Edition of Metro Redux (Metro 2033 and Last Light) as a Bonus Catalog Drop

Without any prior mention in the usual monthly PlayStation Blog roundup, Sony, publisher Deep Silver, and developer 4A Games have quietly added the native PlayStation 5 version of Metro Redux as a bonus title to the PlayStation Plus Premium catalog. While subscribers are still waiting for the mid-month reveal of November's full Extra and Premium lineup, Premium members can already download the newly upgraded dual-game compilation featuring both Metro 2033 Redux and Metro: Last Light Redux at no extra cost.

What Changes on the PlayStation Store for PS Plus Premium Subscribers

Until today, the PlayStation Plus Premium library only granted access to the legacy PlayStation 4 edition of Metro Redux originally released in 2014 and running via backward compatibility. The official listing on the PlayStation Store has now been updated to unlock the native PS5 and PS5 Pro executable for all active Premium subscribers.

Arriving just days after the free Metro Redux Next-Gen Update launched on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S in late October, this catalog upgrade lets subscribers experience every technical overhaul introduced to the 4A Engine across both post-apocalyptic first-person shooters:

  • Native 4K at 60 FPS: a rock-solid fidelity target running at native 4K resolution and 60 frames per second on PlayStation 5 and PS5 Pro.
  • Up to 120 FPS Performance Mode and PSSR Support: a high-framerate mode delivering upscaled 4K at up to 120 FPS on HDMI 2.1 displays, backed by hardware-accelerated PSSR (PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution) on PS5 Pro.
  • Visual and Audio Overhaul: high-definition textures, reworked dynamic lighting and shadows, denser particle effects, real-time hardware tessellation, and refined animations and sound design.
  • Dedicated PS5 Features: full support for DualSense haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, alongside compatibility with the PS5 Low Power Mode.

The Entire Metro Trilogy Is Now Playable Natively on PS5 Ahead of Metro 2039

This surprise drop creates a major milestone inside Sony's subscription ecosystem. Because the third mainline entry in Artyom's journey, Metro Exodus, is already included in the PlayStation Plus Extra catalog in its native PS5 edition, the entire Metro trilogy is now playable from start to finish in native PlayStation 5 versions through a PlayStation Plus Premium membership.

From the claustrophobic tunnels of Metro 2033 and the faction warfare of Last Light to the cross-country voyage aboard the Aurora in Metro Exodus, players can now catch up on the complete saga under optimal technical conditions. The timing could hardly be better, coming just months before Metro 2039 arrives in February 2027 following its recent pre-order reveal.

My Perspective

This is the exact kind of unannounced catalog upgrade I wish we saw much more often on PlayStation Plus Premium. Up until now, booting Metro Redux through the subscription meant settling for the aging 2014 PS4 binary locked to 1080p, with zero DualSense trigger tension and none of the crispness that PSSR brings to PS5 Pro. Having Sony and Deep Silver update the store entitlements right after the Next-Gen patch so Premium members get the native PS5 executable changes the entire feel with a controller in hand: playing through 2033 and Last Light at 120 FPS with mechanical resistance on the Tikhar rifle before jumping straight into Metro Exodus finally gives the whole trilogy unified modern polish. With Metro 2039 only three months away, there has never been a better excuse to strap on a gas mask and head back into the Moscow underground tonight.
