Free Bayonetta, Godzilla, and Final Fantasy VII: Sonic Racing CrossWorlds Launches Year Two on November 3

Following the early storefront listing of the Year Two Season Pass on the Nintendo eShop and digital platforms, SEGA is set to officially kick off the second year of post-launch content for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds on November 3, 2026. Arriving across PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC, the Version 2.0 update combines substantial free gameplay additions with the debut of Season Pass Two, alongside a permanent price reduction bringing the standard game down to $39.99 and the Digital Deluxe Edition to $59.99.
Free Playable Bayonetta, 1v1 Duel Mode, and the Grand Master Plate Arrive on Day One
Every owner of the base game receives a major competitive overhaul on November 3 at no extra cost. Leading the free character lineup is the Umbra Witch herself, Bayonetta, who joins the starting grid alongside her Boost-type vehicle, the Butterfly Witch, complete with custom emotes and sound effects. Players can unlock Bayonetta directly in-game by defeating her in the Rival Duel playlist. SEGA's free Year Two character roadmap also confirms upcoming additions including a McLaren Racing collaboration and Aigis from Persona 3, followed by five additional mystery racers slated for 2027.
On the track, the centerpiece of the free update is the brand-new 1v1 Duel Mode. Built specifically for tactical head-to-head showdowns, Duel Mode displays your opponent's held items and equipped gadgets in real time while introducing the Duel Boost mechanic, a dedicated gauge that charges over time and whenever items are used. Four matchmaking and offline formats launch on day one: Rival Duel Match, online Free Match queues, limited-time Best-of-10 competitive series, and custom Friend Matches.
Vehicle customization also expands significantly with 15 brand-new gadgets arriving on November 3 alongside the new Grand Master Plate. This upgraded plate unlocks a special seventh Super Slot designed exclusively for 1-slot gadgets, amplifying their active or passive effects to open up fresh competitive meta builds.

Godzilla Pack, Retro SEGA Consoles, and the 2027 Roadmap Featuring Evangelion and Final Fantasy VII
Alongside the free update, November 3, 2026 marks the official launch of Season Pass Two, headlined on day one by the Godzilla Pack. This first crossover DLC drops racers into the brand-new Godzilla Escape course, a chaotic variant of Central City caught in the middle of a Toho monster rampage. The pack includes three themed machines (Godzilla Cruiser, King Ghidorah Coupe, and Mothra Surf) as well as new Jukebox music tracks.
Releasing on the exact same day, the SEGA Consoles Pack celebrates hardware history with three nostalgic vehicles modeled after classic systems: the Genesis Tower (US), the SegaSaturn (JP), and the Dreamcast (EU). November 3 is also when players who own both Season Pass One and Season Pass Two will unlock Super Shadow and the Super Dark Flare machine, a cross-pass bonus whose $60 combined paywall and online multiplayer ban recently sparked heated debate across the community.
Beyond November's launch lineup, Season Pass Two will roll out five additional crossover packs throughout 2027 across versions 2.0, 2.1, and 2.2:
- Pack #1: Godzilla Pack (November 3, 2026): Features the Godzilla Escape course plus the Godzilla Cruiser, King Ghidorah Coupe, and Mothra Surf machines.
- Pack #2: Evangelion Pack (January 2027): A Neon Genesis Evangelion crossover showcasing EVA-01 and EVA-02.
- Pack #3: Virtual Sanrio Puroland Pack (Q2 2027): Adds themed content starring Hello Kitty and Kuromi.
- Pack #4: SEGALAND Pack (Q3 2027): A tribute to classic SEGA arcade history.
- Pack #5: Final Fantasy VII Remake Series: Midgar Pack (Q3 2027): Brings Square Enix's iconic metropolis to the circuit.
- Pack #6: Persona Series: Reload Revival Royal Pack (Q4 2027): A crossover celebrating Persona 3 Reload, Persona 4, and Persona 5 Royal.
My Perspective
After the backlash surrounding Super Shadow's dual-pass paywall and online restrictions earlier this month, SEGA needed Year Two's actual gameplay kickoff to deliver tangible value for everyone. Pairing a permanent $39.99 base price cut with a free Bayonetta unlock, a genuinely tactical 1v1 Duel Mode, and the build-shaking Super Slot on the Grand Master Plate gives regular players plenty of reasons to jump back onto the grid on November 3. At the same time, kicking off Season Pass Two with Godzilla before lining up heavyweights like Evangelion, Final Fantasy VII's Midgar, and Persona proves that SEGA is doubling down on turning CrossWorlds into an all-out celebration of Japanese pop culture through the end of 2027.
