G2 Esports Swept by HLE and Team Liquid Stunned by LOS: Western First Seeds Crash Out of LoL Worlds 2026

Day 7 of the League of Legends Worlds 2026 Swiss Stage delivered a brutal reality check for Western fans. Fighting for tournament survival in Round 4's 1-2 elimination pool on Friday, October 30, both LEC champions G2 Esports and LCS first seed Team Liquid bowed out of the World Championship with identical 1-3 records.
Combined with the earlier departure of LPL champions Anyone's Legend, the simultaneous collapse of Europe and North America's top seeds means three of the four major regional champions have been eliminated before the Knockout Stage even begins. Meanwhile, the LCK powerhouse contingent led by 3-0 qualifiers Gen.G and Dplus KIA, alongside 3-1 qualifiers T1, Top Esports, and Invictus Gaming, awaits the final three quarterfinalists.
Hanwha Life Esports Suffocates G2 Esports in a 54-Minute Sweep
Drawn against LCK juggernaut Hanwha Life Esports (HLE) in a do-or-die Best-of-3 Fearless Draft series, G2 Esports struggled to find any footing against elite Korean macro play. Although Hans Sama and Labrov attempted to force early tempo through aggressive bot-lane trades in Game 1, HLE weathered the storm with clinical objective setups.
Spearheaded by dominant performances from top laner Zeus and jungler Kanavi, who earned Player of the Series honors, Hanwha Life Esports seized total map control to close out the opener in 28 minutes. Game 2 proved even more one-sided: suffocated across every lane, BrokenBlade, SkewMond, and Caps fell in just 26 minutes to seal a 0-2 sweep. While G2 endured a punishing Swiss draw featuring Dplus KIA, Top Esports, and HLE, their inability to translate domestic dominance onto the Worlds stage marks another bitter autumn exit.
Brazilian Upset: LOS Eliminates Team Liquid in Front of the Home Crowd
While G2 fell to a tournament favorite, Team Liquid's elimination sent shockwaves through the North American venue. Playing in front of a home crowd with expectations of the strongest LCS lineup in years, Morgan, Josedeodo, Quid, Yeon, and veteran support CoreJJ had previously electrified the arena by knocking out LPL first seed Anyone's Legend.
However, after stumbling against LCP representative CTBC Flying Oyster (CFO), the LCS champions unraveled in a tense three-game elimination series against Brazil's CBLOL Split 2 champions LOS (1-2). Showing fearless teamfighting in the decider, Zest, Curse, Feisty, Duduhh, and Ackerman punished Liquid's mid-game hesitations to advance to the 2-2 pool. The upset compounds a disastrous tournament for North America against Brazilian opposition, following Cloud9's Play-In exit against MVK Esports and Brazil's FURIA.

Round 5 (2-2 Pool) Draw: Karmine Corp vs. Movistar KOI Guarantees One LEC Quarterfinalist
Immediately following Day 7's elimination series, LoL Esports conducted the final Swiss Stage Round 5 draw for the 2-2 bracket, setting up three blockbuster Bo3 clashes on Saturday, October 31 for the last three Knockout Stage berths:
- Karmine Corp (LEC) vs. Movistar KOI (LEC): A massive European civil war pitting French and Spanish fanbases against one another. With Karmine Corp sweeping CFO (2-0) and Movistar KOI dropping down after facing T1 (0-2), the matchup guarantees that one EMEA representative will reach the Worlds 2026 Quarterfinals despite G2's elimination.
- Hanwha Life Esports (LCK) vs. Bilibili Gaming (LPL): A heavyweight collision between two pre-tournament title favorites, ensuring one Eastern superteam will exit in the Swiss Stage.
- LOS (CBLOL) vs. LYON (LCS): Fresh off eliminating Team Liquid, Brazil's LOS will attempt to complete a clean sweep of North American opposition against the last remaining LCS hope, LYON.
My Take
Let's stop sugarcoating it: every single autumn we hear the same narrative about the West closing the gap, and every single autumn the Best-of-3 stage delivers a brutal reality check. Watching Hanwha Life Esports dismantle G2 Esports in under an hour of combined game time proves just how unforgiving Fearless Draft is when your macro discipline and champion ocean aren't on par with the LCK elite. As for Team Liquid, crashing out 1-3 on home soil against a CBLOL squad right after eliminating the LPL champions is peak North American inconsistency. The only silver lining for Western fans is the Round 5 draw: Karmine Corp versus Movistar KOI is going to blow the roof off the viewership charts, even if the winner will need a miracle to survive the quarterfinal sharks waiting in the Knockout Stage.
