Monster Train 2: The Punished DLC Brings Archus and a 6th Playable Clan on November 10 for $7.99

Monster Train 2 The Punished Archus Darkness Incarnate sixth clan

Developer Shiny Shoe and publisher Big Fan Games have officially announced Monster Train 2: The Punished, a new paid expansion for their acclaimed roguelike deckbuilder. Launching on November 10, 2026 for $7.99 / €7.99 across PC (via Steam), PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch, the DLC introduces a sixth playable clan built around high-risk self-sacrifice and turning friendly damage into overwhelming offensive power.

Archus Steps Out of Seraph's Shadow as a Playable Champion

Longtime fans of the franchise will immediately recognize the leader of the new faction: Archus, Darkness Incarnate. Originally fought as a formidable boss in the first Monster Train, Archus is a former angel of Heaven who spent his life overlooked by his older brother, Seraph, and abandoned by Fel. After a failed coup to overthrow Seraph and forge his own path, Archus was cast down into Heaven's Maw.

In the depths of that abyss, he discovered how to convert suffering into raw might. Now allied with the forces of the Banished Outpost to bring down the Titans, Archus commands The Punished, a legion of dark angels and heavenly outcasts that weaponize their own pain across every floor of the train.

The Monolith, Devotion, and Four New Combat Keywords

At the heart of the clan's kit is The Monolith, a static interaction button available directly on the combat screen. During battle, players can spend Ember and discard cards from their hand to offer Tribute to the Monolith, permanently raising their Devotion across the entire run. Higher levels of Devotion supercharge specific clan cards and grant newly summoned units stacks of Zeal, boosting both their Attack and maximum Health.

To turn self-inflicted wounds into a winning strategy, The Punished rely on four interlocking keyword mechanics:

  • Punish: Activates potent unit abilities whenever friendly spells or skills deal damage to your own forces.
  • Bloodshed: Rewards players with immediate combat bonuses every time a friendly unit takes damage on that same floor.
  • Chained: Forces enemy waves to share in the agony, dealing damage to opposing targets simultaneously whenever your own units take a hit.
  • Tenacious: Protects core units by preventing friendly damage from dealing a fatal blow, allowing players to push self-damage combos to the limit without wiping out their own frontline.

Arriving One Week After PlayStation Plus and One Million Players

The reveal of Monster Train 2: The Punished comes as Shiny Shoe celebrates surpassing one million players across PC and consoles. The November 10 release window also lines up with a major influx of new players on Sony's console, as the base game joins the PlayStation Plus November 2026 monthly games lineup on November 3, just one week before the expansion drops.

Shiny Shoe noted that The Punished will serve as the final planned post-launch content expansion for Monster Train 2, while upcoming ports for Nintendo Switch 2, iOS, and Android remain on track for later in 2026 with full support for the DLC. Designers from Shiny Shoe will also host a live Q&A developer stream on YouTube on launch day, November 10, at 2:00 PM PST.

My Take

Turning a classic boss from the original game into a playable champion built around tactical self-harm is the kind of bold design that keeps a deckbuilder fresh hundreds of hours in. Most roguelike instincts tell you to protect your frontline at all costs, so a clan that dares you to blast your own units under Tenacious protection while feeding Ember and cards into the Monolith completely flips how you evaluate every turn. At $7.99, and landing just seven days after the base game hits PlayStation Plus, November 10 is going to be an easy excuse to jump right back on the rails.
